To the editor,

Homicide by definition is the killing of one human being by another, knowingly, recklessly, or with criminal negligence – deliberate homicide.

Would this not be the definition of a person who sells toxic drugs? They know that what they are selling will result in the death of another person so why can’t they be charged under the criminal code? Are our laws so backwards that we actually support the killing of innocent people? A person arrested with large quantities of drugs should be charged in accordance with the amount of drugs in their possession at the time of arrest. If one-tenth of a gram is lethal enough to kill someone then a gram should equal 10 counts of homicide. Maybe then some headway can be made in the war on drugs and reduce the killing of our population – both those who are addicted and the weekend casual users.
