To the editor,
I’m disappointed by the lack of progress toward completing our Harbourfront Walkway.
My wife and I moved to Nanaimo from Ontario in 2003 and over the following 19 years not much has been done to extend the walkway.
In contrast, millions have been spent on bicycle paths which serve a far smaller community.
Extending the Harbourfront Walkway will always involve challenges. For example, a public referendum to approve financing of construction of the Walkway from Departure Bay to the ferry terminal may be necessary.
As the municipal election date approaches, I’ll be following the statements of council candidates closely and only those who give priority to improving the walkway will get my vote.
