To the editor,

Nanaimo’s new NDP member of Parliament has a way of costing – wasting? – taxpayers’ money. First, she resigned her seat on the school board thereby necessitating a byelection to fill her spot for only 10 months. In the past, politicians seemed able to hold two positions simultaneously. In the past, politicians also had some respect for taxpayers’ dollars. A politician who resigns their seat because they are seeking other political positions should be required to compensate taxpayers for the cost of their ambition.

And now our MP has just sent out a householder flyer that contains no information of value other than her name and address. I have complained to her office about this and asked that in future I would rather the money spent on producing and mailing these flyers be donated to a local charity. Lisa Marie Barron has twice now shown what she thinks of taxpayers’ hard earned dollars. Is it any wonder citizens are becoming disenchanted and angry with our political elites?

Les Barclay, Nanaimo
