To the editor,
I just cannot help but mention the delight our section received when a small group of your Islanders swept into the Seattle Seahawks’ stadium Lumen Field last week and turned it up several notches.
Now those of you who have been to a game know it is hard to up the energy level at a ’Hawks game, but we were largely impressed by their knowledge, enthusiasm and grand humour.
Bright sunshine filled our section as we joined together in cheer, dance and song. The spontaneity and shared love was palpable.
As neighbours to the north, we know that each of you overcame the border, road rage and a high exchange rate to share your sentiments and good spirit. We know you as fierce rivals on the ice – go Kraken – but on this day, it just felt so warm to celebrate together.
So, whatever you call yourselves: Nanaimites? Nanaimoers? V. Islanders? I prefer to call you all ‘friend’ and extend our open invite.
