LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Hospitals aren’t the right place for hard drugs

To the editor,

The last thing I want ever, never, is to have a drug-taking site at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital or any public health-care centre. I recently took my mother-in-law to the emergency ward here and there were people, obviously high and out of it, yelling at staff, sprawling out over several chairs in the waiting room and spending copious amount of time jamming up the restrooms. Doing what? I hate to imagine.

Finally, hopefully, politicians and the powers-that-be are starting to realize those who are so far gone can no longer be left to make choices on their own. They have already made and continue to make bad choices and we should not be helping them continue in their sorrowful state by feeding them even more drugs, safe or not. The plan must be to cut them off drugs.

J.G. McCater, Nanaimo
