To the editor,
I am encouraging all people to have the hard talks about end of life with their loved ones.
My parents worked very hard for what they saved. My sister and I learned too late after our mom’s passing. We both had power of attorney (doing her banking), both in the will as benefactors, but were not listed on her bank account. This has resulted in her will being probated. Endless legal paperwork and thousands of dollars has to be paid to the government, just so avoidable if you pre-plan. Make an appointment with your bank’s estate planner.
Hope this can help someone else avoid our horrible experience.
