To the editor,

Re: Ferries doing travellers a disservice, Oct. 16.

I think B.C. Ferries is probably the best ferry service in the world.

I’ve lived here since 1945 and have witnessed dramatic changes in the service we who call the Island home have enjoyed. But the increases in service have meant many changes in our population most of which have not been entirely positive. When I look around I see all the changes our closer proximity to the mainland have brought it does sadden me and those of us who knew the Island previously.

As for the ferry reservations system, I think it is a vast improvement from the days of maybe we make the ferry, maybe we wait two or three sailings.

As to the cost of reservations, a couple of cups of coffee if one plans ahead. I like the idea that I can make a reservation and if things don’t work out it’s easy and cheap to cancel or change.

After having travelled outside B.C. a great deal I think B.C. Ferries is a well-run, inexpensive service to those of us who choose to live on an island.
