To the editor,

Re: Ocean centre floats campaign for support, Aug. 10.

I have another suggestion for the space; why not have something for seniors? I don’t mean another seniors’ community centre, but a place that’s elegant, that offers dining and dancing? If not under the stars, then under a glass roof that shows the stars. Glass walls too. Elegant chandeliers and white tablecloths.

This could be a place reminiscent of the 1940s when there were big bands and women wore long dresses and the men wore tuxedos to go out for an evening. I can see seniors from all over the Island and beyond coming here. Some might even remember a similar place when they were young. Let’s bring some old-fashioned romance back into this world … There should be a place to be openly romantic that extends far beyond Feb. 14 and New Year’s Eve. Sometimes vision also means looking back to move forward.

I much prefer the above idea to moving a bunch of rocks and dirt around or being launched into a plastic dumpsite ‘virtually.’ You can create a virtual space anywhere, so why mar an ocean site for that purpose? I only see this ocean centre being visited initially and then perhaps once a year.
