LETTER TO THE EDITOR: City needs checks and balances on ability to borrow

To the editor, Re: AAP opposition wasn’t insignificant , Letters, Jan. 1. The letter writer is correct. The council is out of step with public opinion.

To the editor,

Re: AAP opposition wasn’t insignificant, Letters, Jan. 1.

The letter writer is correct. The council is out of step with public opinion. Why could there not be a referendum that coincides with the election regarding the proposed projects? The true financial cost, which includes compound interest, must be disclosed.

Allowing council free rein to borrow and face the electorate four years later to get approval is a non starter.
