LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Citizens losing faith in government

Politicians’ speeches might be well-crafted, but there’s no follow-through, says letter writer

To the editor,

Re: City’s non-voters will still complain, Letters, Nov. 2.

For good reason, fewer and fewer people are bothering to cast their votes. We’re losing faith in a system that was built on a foundation of fairness and democracy. Now, as it was and always has been: hypocrisy.

If you haven’t already noticed, it’s been the same people getting in, time and time again. Money poured in to secure a seat, and when all is said and done, it includes all the perks of a prominent politician.

Podium speeches, well-crafted, with the exception of not following through. Rather than spending money on things that matter, it’s been conveniently allocated for substantial pay increases – generously, I may add.

Plan for the future: education, housing, infrastructure, crime prevention. I’ll give up some give rights and privacy if a few dozen criminals get locked up and stay locked up. Aren’t you fed up with the current system? Divide the construction between much-needed public housing and secure prisons. Remote location. 25 years to life. Seems fair and appropriate.
