To the editor,

Re: Roads need to move people in vehicles, Letters, Nov 23.

It’s important to understand that traffic is literally made up of cars. Traffic isn’t people on bikes or riding buses, it’s humans in personal vehicles using roads. More roads means more vehicles means more traffic. A request for more roads is a request for more traffic. New lanes don’t make things faster, we have only to look at L.A. to see where this goes.

Personal vehicles are one of the most expensive and dangerous methods of travel. More roads means more traffic accidents, more property taxes and more family budgets spent on personal vehicles.

Most people in Nanaimo already think it’s too expensive. I’m not sure why the letter writer wants it to be even more expensive to live here, but I’m open to his reasoning.

Gates Perrault, Nanaimo
