It’s no surprise that alcohol consumption might cause people to be lax with COVID-19 health and safety, says letter writer. (Stock photo)

To the editor,

Re: B.C. to shut down nightclubs, banquet halls; limit late-night alcohol sales at bars, Sept. 8.

This isn’t a surprise. How could the health minister think that people, who have been drinking all night, would make wise choices and follow COVID-19 rules? This problem should have been anticipated and these establishments should have been the last to open, not some of the first. Now perhaps Dr. Bonnie Henry can anticipate the risks posed by Halloween and cancel it before we get another predictable uptick in illnesses and deaths. Let’s err on the side of caution until we have a vaccine.
