To the Editor,
Re: Soccer turban ban an insult to all, Opinion, June 15.
In my long life I have been a soccer player, spectator, coach, referee, assistant referee and administrator.
In all those years I have never seen any player wearing head coverage in organized or unorganized soccer. Except one world-renowned goalkeeper guarding against a previous, serious head injury. In many places around the world players go bare-footed.
Because heading or attempting to head the ball is important in soccer, there are a number of head injuries.
But wearing any type of head covering would be an unfair advantage – including bandanas – because any hurt impacting the ball would be lessened with head coverage.
