Gravel fill in lakes would ease threat

To the Editor,

Re: City plans to remove two century-old dams, Nov. 1.

If the volume of water is the problem at Colliery Dam Park, then why not reduce it by making it a shallow lake?

This could be done by placing rocks in the lakes. The largest rocks possible should be placed behind each dam so as to create a strong barrier.

If need be, pit run gravel could be used behind the barrier as possbly a cheaper fill.

There should be enough water for swimming, the lakes would look as they are today and wildlife and birds should not be affected.

This would be a far cheaper alternative thus saving the taxpayers on their taxes.
