It has been said many times over the years by qualified people, that the real government is not the one the people elected, but the invisible ones behind the scenes.
How the people effectively deal with this invisible government is a good question.
Canada has been cursed with such a government since the First World War, and Canadian veterans are the ones who have had to bear this burden.
I am a former member of the Canadian military and know first hand how impossible it is to deal with Veterans Affairs Canada.
The Canadian government has a tradition of being a skinflint in dealing with the people who have put their lives in harm’s way to protect this country and its government.
It took years for the government to recognize the Hong Kong veterans and the Canadian Merchant Marine from the Second World War. Those are just two examples of the government’s indifference to veterans.
We also have the present problem of veterans in financial distress, not being able to get proper medical assistance or being denied a decent funeral.
The question for us now is how do we go about making our government accountable to the people who pay for it?
