Government isn't science-minded

Figures cannot refute the evidence of years of stifling neglect and blissful ignorance the Conservative government has shown.

To the Editor,

Re: Federal government spends money on science, Letters, April 10.

This gentleman attempts to refute charges that the Conservative government is “anti-science.” I don’t pretend to know where he gets his figures as to increases in research and development spending, but if past experience with this federal government is any indication, they are at least distorted, and at worst, without foundation.

Our government forbids its scientists to speak or publish without permission, does not acknowledge global climate change, obstructs long-term agreements, and is further distinguished by having researchers picket at Parliament Hill in the cause of openness and fact-based research.

Figures cannot refute the evidence of years of stifling neglect and blissful ignorance the Conservative government has shown with its doctrine of ideology above all else.
