Re: B.C. Ferries needs to correct course, Letters, March 31.

I was surprised to read this letter to the editor. The route from the mainland to Gabriola Island was a route chosen initially. But, the local island residents did not want this connection from the south end of Gabriola across the island to a bridge at or near Dodds Narrows connecting across Cedar to the Island Highway.

This route would have done two things: eliminate the Gabriola ferry and save at least 30 minutes needed to travel around to the present Duke Point location.

This would have saved a great amount of money, plus provided easier connection for the Islanders. Unfortunately decisions and discussions by objectors created the existing placement.
