Ferries have always been part of highway system

It is time for our Island-based MLAs to step up and take some initiative with regards to the ferries

Re: Ferries a floating highway, Letters, May 11.

The major Trans Canada Highway initiative was strategically routed through Horseshoe Bay and Departure Bay.

This caused the construction of the Port Mann Bridge and the Second Narrows (Ironworkers’ Memorial) Bridge.

Also, the upgrading of the upper-levels highway including the cut, overpasses and bridges.

I am sure there were similar undertakings here on the Island.

It is time for our Island-based MLAs to step up and take some initiative with regards to the ferries.

All the ferries are part of the highway system. The local inter-island ferries should be free.
