Election results show distaste for arts funding

To the Editor,

Re: Voters choose McKay for mayor’s chair, Nov. 18.

A new Nanaimo city council has been elected to reel in all the careless spending of the last regime, among other important issues, but Coun. Diane Brennan seems to have missed this point. Just a few days after her eighth-place finish, the councillor is already talking about keeping the arts trough full with public cash.

She obviously needs to study the vote count and realize why she was reduced to eighth place and why some fellow cultural supporters were sent packing.

Soon, I’m sure, any councillor who forges ahead to spend lots of the public’s tax money on ‘extra’ items will soon find themselves all alone and isolated at the new council table.
