We hope readers are having their best summer ever. Here in the Harbour City we’ve just enjoyed the height of festival season, but there’s lots more summer fun in the weeks to come, as the season isn’t even half over.

It’s hard not to have a great summer when you’re lucky enough to live in Nanaimo. There are a lot of reasons why Nanaimo’s the best, and we’d love to hear about more of those reasons as we continue to plan this year’s Best of the City magazine.

We’ve received thousands of votes already in this year’s Best of the City survey, and there’s less than a week now to visit www.nanaimobulletin.com/contests and add your votes to that tally. For those unfamiliar with Best of the City, we survey readers on their favourite places to eat and drink, shop and do business, get active, etc. Once all the votes are in, we tally up the best of the best and share them with the community as part of our annual Best of the City magazine.

As mentioned, we’ve gotten a lot of surveys back. But we want as many as possible, because we know that more votes means we’re getting a more rounded, more representative picture of the community’s favourites. More votes means those Best of the City awards you see at fine businesses around town are all the more prestigious.

As incentive to fill out the survey, we’re offering a draw prize, so everyone who takes the time to vote will be entered for a chance to win a $250 gas card courtesy Mid Island Co-op.

The contest closes Monday, Aug. 5, at 11 p.m. Thank you to all who have voted, and who are planning to vote by then. And thank you to everyone who is helping us spread the word about the best of Nanaimo and the many, many reasons to love the place we live.
