E-town hall meetings inaccessible to some

An ‘e-town hall’ meeting by Nanaimo municipal politicians to get public feedback on any issue that concerns us is unacceptable.

To the Editor,

Re: Environment committee discussed at e-town hall meeting with city council, July 28.

An ‘e-town hall’ meeting by Nanaimo municipal politicians to get public feedback on any issue that concerns us is unacceptable.

Sure, it may be ‘cool,’ but how many citizens have knowledge of or access to these meetings?

An avid reader of every page of multiple papers, I was not informed of this meeting, so many others who wish to have a voice, would have missed the announcement as well. How many people do not have computers? Of those who do, how many would know how to participate?  What about the elderly?

Nanaimo council is failing us all miserably by eschewing traditional town hall meetings, which anyone can attend, in favour of technology which many do not have knowledge of or access to.

I am angry that I missed out on this discussion. I am sure all of the special interest groups were well-informed beforehand.
