District’s spending continually puzzling

NANAIMO – Re: District wastes tax dollars while abandoning children facing constant bullying, Letters, May 25.

To the Editor,

Re: Energy upgrade paying off for school district, May 25; District wastes tax dollars while abandoning children facing constant bullying, Letters, May 25.

Any time events concerning children and their welfare are printed in your newspaper, I am an interested reader.

The above mentioned article and letter have some connection.

In regards to energy, it was a commendable report by the Nanaimo school district on the upgrades for our schools, but the $39,000 for a new electric car to me is questionable.

As for the letter from a mother on behalf of her 11-year-old daughter, the link is the priority the district has for the spending the tax dollars it receives. I would like someone to explain to me how more than $50,000 is spent on two items – the new logo and an electric car.

I fail to see how these two expenditures are vital or necessary in the education of our children. The logo was frivolous spending. And an electric car? Who and what is this for?

That $50,000 could go a long way in buying sports equipment or musical instruments when all other educational needs such as anti-bullying services are met.
