Convert vacant warehouse to give shelter to homeless

To the Editor,

Re: Council hears appeals over wet housing, April 16.

To save thousands of dollars or more, why can’t the city convert a vacant warehouse, say in the industrial park off Dorman Road behind Beban Park?

It could have individual rooms, common washrooms, a lounge area for watching TV and a kitchen, similar to the style of the Salvation Army.

While people are there it should enable them the time and security to try and get a job, because building housing for them still means they have to pay bills like we all do.

It would be an incentive for them to get out of that style of life and get back into the workforce with help from the various government agencies.

For the mentally ill and addicts, they are the ones who should be helped through the professionals, not all clumped in together in the proposed housing.
