Concerned citizens deserve to have greater say in city planning decisions

I am against development done strictly for developer’s interests.

To the Editor,

Re: Nature has no place in north end, Letters, April 8.

I am not against development in our city. Done with the community in mind it can enhance and improve where we live. I am against development done strictly for developer’s interests.

Lands in the Linley Valley are precious and irreplaceable. Any changes should be done carefully with the community’s best interests in mind.

The developer has legal rights and restrictions based on city bylaws.  More often than not they do not live in the area so are not impacted by the design of their work or the natural areas that disappear because of it. Our city planning department is responsible for deciding what can or cannot be done. Since the people of the area are the ones most impacted by what is decided, they should be included in the decisions. It is time that citizens have a greater say in how their community grows and not leave it to planners and developers.

Once our green spaces are gone they are gone forever, to the detriment of all future generations.
