Re: Snuneymuxw expresses concerns over dam demolition, June 18.
The City of Nanaimo’s failure to consult with Snuneymuxw First Nation at every step of the way with regards to the Colliery Dam Park dams is shameful.
One would have thought, especially since hiring a communications officer, these serious breaches of diplomacy would have been a thing of the past. Sadly, we see they are not.
This instance is indicative of a greater and ongoing problem. Lack of communication, staff to staff, staff to council, council to citizens etc., appears to be endemically entrenched.
While we have taken some small steps toward transparency in this city, it is obvious there is far more work to be done.
Openness through all levels, not just the mirage of such, is a beneficial behaviour to strive for.
