City’s sidewalk bylaw impossible to follow

To the Editor,

Why are we wasting our time and effort clearing snow off the sidewalks in front of our homes when the city dumps the snow from the road onto the sidewalk next door, making it impassable for walkers?

A good example is the city’s snow-clearing equipment dumping four feet of snow on the sidewalk adjoining our property.

Obviously the city has no concern about ensuring sidewalks are passable, much less clear of snow.

How can it pass bylaws concerning sidewalk maintenance when it makes obeying the rules impossible?

Isn’t it time we stop this charade and insist the city pursue a sidewalk maintenance policy that is practical and effective?
