‘Christmas’ is not an offensive word

NANAIMO – Why would buying Christmas stamps be offensive? And to who?

To the Editor,

Last week I went to a local postal outlet in Nanaimo for stamps for my Christmas cards.

However, the clerk started to give me regular stamps until I asked if she had any Christmas stamps.

She responded that postal clerks are not allowed to give out Christmas stamps unless they are requested, in case that will offend anyone.

I can’t believe this. If we are obviously sending Christmas cards, why would buying Christmas stamps be offensive? And to who?

How can the word Christmas be so offensive and who has the majority here? What is happening in our world?
