Cell towers hazardous

Cellphone towers falling into mine shafts should be the least of our worries. There are many health concerns, as well.

To the Editor,

Re: Cell tower not supported by regional district, June 4.

Hooray for common sense.

Local residents revealed the cellphone tower was going to be located above an abandoned coal mine. Cellphone towers falling into mine shafts should be the least of our worries. There are many health concerns, as well.

In California, in the second-largest school district in the U.S., cellphone towers are banned near school property. In India, which has more cellphone towers per capita than any other country, one in four couples are unable to conceive. In Sweden, electrohypersensitivity is an officially recognized functional impairment.

There really is no responsible place to put cellphone towers. Let’s act proactively and set a moratorium on all future cellphone towers in B.C.
