Build incinerator over on mainland

Well, if in fact it is such a clean and stink-free operation, why not build in in or around Vancouver?

To the Editor,

Re: Let’s not trash incinerator plan just yet, Letters, Sept. 10.

I agree with the letter writer that it is always wise to look at both sides of a situation and I see that he is suggesting that using Duke Point to help Vancouver manage their garbage problem may not be such a bad idea.

He seems to accept the proponent’s claim that such a facility would be odour-free. Well, if in fact it is such a clean and stink-free operation, why not build in in or around Vancouver? The City of Vancouver wants to get it as far away as possible and the usual reason for NIMBY attitudes when it comes to garage incinerators is the odour problem.

Let’s not fall for this scheme; let Vancouver deal with the problem it has created. After all, there will be no stink, right?
