Beef to everyone with an open cargo bed truck who does not secure or tie up their cargo and trash. The highway shoulders/berms are full of trash that flies out of the cargo beds when driving at higher speeds.

BOUQUET Treat yourself and some friends at the recently opened Lavender Art Café. The welcoming owners have repainted and decorated this relaxing space. Pick from a wide choice of beverages and treats. You won’t be disappointed.

BEEF To the couple who verbally attacked the woman coming out of the accessible bathroom, being disabled yourself, you should realize that some disabilities are not visible. Being an employee doesn’t mean she can’t use the washroom. You should be ashamed a lot of the people heard you mocking her. And yes she does have invisible disabilities, and she doesn’t have to explain them.

BOUQUET To staff at B.C. Ferries Tsawwassen and Duke Point terminals for their willing assistance and helpfulness when they arranged to place my forgotten luggage on a later ferry. Staff who went above and beyond include the cashiers, supervisors, luggage handlers, the personable ferry captain and all others with whom I had contact. I am one happy traveller thanks to B.C. Ferries.

BEEF To our neighbours’ gardener who comes daily and is so loud first thing in the morning. Why chainsaws daily?

BOUQUET Gratitude to the city engineers for upgrading Nanaimo’s water pipelines so the problems experienced by Calgary and Montreal won’t happen here. Well worth a little inconvenience.

BEEF Where is my passport? Although promised in 20 business days, 30 business days have passed and I have not received my passport. The online passport application checker is useless.  It states we have received your application and are reviewing it. Foolishly, I thought the online tool would tell me something helpful like where was my passport in the queue.

BOUQUET To the manager and staff at Trail Appliances for helping me deal with a faulty fridge that I had purchased. Thank you for bringing my problem to a satisfactory resolution. I will continue to recommend and patronize your business.

BEEF To the people still complaining about the bike lanes: it’s been over a year; get over yourselves. Maybe if car drivers didn’t treat bike riders on the road like moving targets we wouldn’t need our own lanes.

BOUQUET To the driver in a red truck on Turner Road who let me know my brake lights weren’t working. I went to Midas Muffler on Hammond Bay Road thinking its was a burned-out fuse. Two mechanics did a light check and found that my brake light bulbs were actually burned out. No charge for the inspection and brake light bulbs. Amazing service, thank you.

BEEF To the young lady stocking the supermarket shelves, please wash your hair and change your clothes. There really is no excuse for this lack of hygiene, summer or winter.

BOUQUET To Jeff C. and neighbours in the Planta Road area. An elderly gentleman collapsed on the road while out walking. Jeff and other neighbours ran to his aid performing CPR. These amazing people saved the man’s life and should be recognized for their heroic actions. Thank God they were there otherwise the man would have died.

BEEF There have been many horrible accidents in the Nanaimo area of late. I, personally, have had two people nearly hit my motorcycle just now, entering a coffee shop parking lot. Come on, people, smarten up and pay attention when you’re behind the wheel. This is getting ridiculous.

BOUQUET To Save-on-Foods at Brooks Landing. I would like to thank each and every one of you for helping Helen and her family during a very difficult time. I was fortunate enough to meet so many loving and generous people who work there. The  kindness you all showed was noticed and appreciated.

BEEF To painting companies that charge $100 per hour and pay the painters $22 per hour. This is excess profit for the owners and little benefit for their employees. Better to choose local professional painters and keep the profits for yourself.

BOUQUET Could the nice lady who recently bought the Kenmore sewing machine at the garage sale on Twiggly Wiggly Road please return to the location? You need to pick up the foot pedal.

BEEF Students should not have to take the bus from VIU to Cinnabar Valley/Cedar then finally downtown. A direct bus for each. These students have jobs in restaurants, bars, hotels and the casino and don’t need to take an hour and half to get downtown to their jobs from VIU.

BOUQUET To the house on Medd and Groveland that leaves water out for the doggos on our walks. Very grateful for you.

BEEF To the man at the watch repair station. You were rude, again, and I visited several other stores trying to obtain a new watchband, only to find they almost all reported similar tales of woe from other customers. I reported your power trip because this is not how one treats customers.

BOUQUET To Country Grocer. For all my gluten-free friends, the store now has a whole shelf of not-frozen, gluten-free, dairy-free bread products, not destroyed by being pre-frozen. Other grocers keep their gluten-free products frozen, so they never have to put them on sale and they always taste stale.

BEEF To the eye specialist. How ridiculous to not take phone calls anymore from patients, and you say to e-mail but don’t respond. So careless.

BOUQUET To Calla at London Drugs. With so many of us not having a doctor now, it can get a bit scary when you need to see one and your only recourse seems to be the overcrowded ER. Thank God we have a pharmacist who is kind and knowledgeable. Thanks.

BEEF To drivers who ignore stop signs. And going around them doesn’t make them invisible. When did it become multiple choice?

BEEF To jury duty, how can the government expect anyone to show up at jury selection/jury duty and get paid $20 a day. Are we not already getting hosed enough? Let’s miss a day’s pay – not!

BEEF To all our politicians who made up way too many rules and now don’t have enough people to enforce them. What’s the point then?

BEEF To everyone with an open cargo bed truck who does not secure or tie up their cargo and trash. The highway shoulders/berms are full of trash that flies out of the cargo beds when driving at higher speeds. It’s easy to throw your fast-food trash, cups, and plastic packaging in the back, but don’t pretend you don’t know it will fly out. Just take a bit of care and dispose of it properly. The road is not a trash can.

BEEF To the person who found my wallet with all my loyalty cards as well as two gift cards. You returned the loyalty cards but kept the gift cards from the coffee shops for yourself. The loyalty cards are easily replaced. However shame on you for keeping the gift cards which were a gift from my grandchildren so I could treat myself to a specialty coffee or drink. Where is your kindness and honesty?

BEEF To whoever is responsible for the overgrown plant life along the sidewalks of Bowen and Kenworth. They crowd those with walkers and wheelchairs off the road, poke people in the eyes with their branches. Why is nobody pruning?

BEEF I too visit the seniors home under renovations and the conditions. Someone needs to be advocate for these people, their living conditions are unsafe and unhealthy.

BEEF To Island drivers who don’t understand zipper merging at construction sites.

BEEF I disagree with the borrowing of $90 million for a new public works yard. Contract it out. My taxes 50 years ago were $50. Now my taxes are over $3,000 and as a senior citizen, I cannot afford a tax hike.

BEEF To the owners of construction companies who rock around in their branded diesels whilst their workers can’t afford to buy new boots. I understand you took the risk and built the company, but it leaves you with resentful and cynical workers. If you want the best of us, then pony up the cash.

BEEF The temporary public art is a discordant piece that has already begun to smell. My dog growled at it.

BEEF To all drivers who don’t know to pull up to the stop line at controlled intersections. Those tar circles you drive over have sensors underneath that detect your vehicles’ presence, thereby signalling the light to change on demand. They’ve been in operation for over 20 years. Now you know, so pull forward please.

BEEF More of an FYI to the person beefing about motorists stopping one or two truck lengths before another vehicle at a red light. ICBC wants us to stop at least one car length behind the vehicle in front of us at a red light. My daughter was stopped at a red light behind another vehicle. Another vehicle hit her hard enough to send her into the rear end of the vehicle ahead of her. ICBC questioned how far away she was from the vehicle ahead of her.

BEEF To the café. I witnessed a customer be aggressive to another customer, who then stood up for himself and told them to leave him alone. The proprietor of the café then criticized the man who stood up for himself. If you let people treat you badly, they will go on to treat others badly too.

BEEF To the health authority for placing drug users in long-term care where both residents and health-care staff are subjected to daily active drug use, smoking of meth and threats of physical violence. The B.C. government, ministry of health and health authority must all be held accountable for this ongoing travesty.

BEEF To the local drivers in the mobile home park near Westwood Lake. Please slow down as I am sure you have noticed we have a lot of walkers and grandkids around not to mention the families of deer.

BEEF To the city for not putting more 50 kilometres per hour signs along Stewart Avenue. Drivers speed along at 70 or 80km/h all day and night long. When the ferry lets out, it’s nuts the way people drive. Additional beef to the RCMP for not enforcing the speed limit.

BEEF To the new neighbours who regularly have their family drama spilling out into the apartment parking lot. Red and blue lights weren’t a regular thing before your arrival. It was peaceful.
