At Harewood Centennial Park, anywhere from 2-12 kids of all ages race around the sidewalks, through the playpark and out across those expensive fields on e-scooters and e-bikes with little concern shown for those of us trying to have a quiet walk.

BOUQUET To Barry from the Save-On-Foods Country Club pharmacy. He gives such great, friendly service whenever I go there. Thanks.

BEEF Training an animal by inflicting pain is not right (nor would it be right for a defenceless person either). So please stop. You are creating a being that will be damaged and will have psychological problems in future. It is not the right thing to do at all.

BOUQUET To the mother and father of the beefer who served their country and fought the Axis on D-Day. However, that was over 80 years ago. The world has changed, and the military interventions we stage these days are not justified by one good cause. A bouquet to those who champion peace in our time, rather than valourizing war for the sake of tradition.

BEEF My old dog and I aren’t safe walking on the sidewalks in the evenings at Harewood Centennial Park. Security guards walk around or sit in their cars while anywhere from 2-12 kids of all ages race around the sidewalks, through the playpark and out across those expensive fields on e-scooters and e-bikes with little concern shown for those of us trying to have a quiet walk.

BOUQUET I recently spent eight days in NRGH. I was treated with respect, great care and outstanding skills. The doctors, RNs, LPNs, care aides, physiotherapists, cleaners and cooks did their very best and are to be congratulated.

BEEF To the neighbours. You’re mistaking politeness as personal counselling. By verbally spilling out decades of your family’s dysfunction and very deeply personal matters, you’re oversharing and making other’s uncomfortable. We’re not your ‘blessing.’

BOUQUET Thank you to the British car club for coming out to our rock ‘n’ roll event at Nanaimo Seniors Village. The residents loved the classic cars.

BEEF To the writer schooling the public on their perceived idea of homeless utopia. Since when did getting a job, being responsible and making good choices become such a bore to some? Taking responsibility for one’s actions is the first step to success.

BOUQUET I had reason to be at the hospital through the ambulatory unit. Every single person was absolutely lovely and very helpful. The nursing staff never fail to blow me away with their kindness, the doctor was excellent, and every staff member was doing their best to keep our medical system ticking along. Thank you all so very, very much.

BEEF To Nanaimo city council who profess to want citizen engagement and participation but who consistently fail to reply to submitted e-mails sent to mayor and council when they don’t like the questions and subject matter.

BOUQUET To the City of Nanaimo’s parks, recreation and culture department. Your commitment to providing sources of joy to our community by creating Concerts in the Park program is greatly appreciated. It is a win, win and win. Thank you.

BEEF To the two whale-chasing boats. We could see you. You were way too close to them. Leave them alone, they do not want you there. Get a new hobby.

BOUQUET To our wonderful pastor Fr. Harrison at St. Peter’s, he has helped grow our parish, and dedicates so much time to the youths in our community. He has a lot on his plate and he handles it all with great determination and God’s grace.

BEEF To whoever decides that police resources are wasted on speeders and loud vehicles. This little city has become a veritable speedtrack of very fast and very loud cars trucks and motorcycles. As far as I can see there is no attempt at control.

BOUQUET To Charlotte at Island Mediquip. You brought sunshine to my day with our conversation. Thank you and keep being you.

BEEF I understand that noisy bikes can be annoying. However, if motorists would put down their phones and/or actually looked for motorcycles, there would be no reason to make bikes’ exhaust louder. Drivers don’t look for motorcycles so they need to be heard. Sorry for the annoying sounds, but loud pipes save lives.

BOUQUET To Apple Auto Glass which stands behind their work. They were quick to get me in for an appointment, very friendly, honest and they do amazing work. Thanks again.

BEEF With all the major street construction going on I’ve not seen one area where a proper ‘off the road’ bus stop is being made. Buses continue to stop directly on streets to drop off/pick up passengers. On Hammond Bay Road recently there were close to 30 vehicles behind a bus.

BOUQUET Super good customer service from all the Showcase employees. Friendly and efficient. They always make me feel special.

BEEF To the clinic. Gay men’s health concerns go beyond drug/sex addiction. We demand genuine LGBTQ representation and mental health support. In addition, the clinic’s unclean and unsafe conditions are alarming. Misrepresenting staff as social workers is unacceptable and harmful. More harm than good is being done in this environment.

BOUQUET To Mike the HandyDart dispatcher/driver. Thanks for finding a way so I did not have to wait in the cold and rain for an hour when my appointment was over early. HandyDart should give Mike a commendation for treating everyone with such professionalism and kindness.

BEEF To all the drivers who ignore and block emergency vehicles. Pretty sure you wouldn’t want some random car cutting off an ambulance that was coming to save you. When you hear and/or see an emergency vehicle with lights and sirens, pull over and give them space to get through.

BOUQUET To Rob at Fairway Market, always happy to see you and treats you like a friend.

BOUQUET To the city workers who cleaned up the street median on McGirr at Hammond Bay roads recently, freeing it from overgrown weeds. It looks great and your efforts are appreciated. I would like to see more medians cleaned up from the never-ending weeds. It really improves the look of our city.

BEEF To all who pass on the right. This is why the hockey player and his brother are in heaven. Please stop it.

BOUQUET To the young people who shared their musical talents with us during Sunday summer services at St. Andrew’s United. Their performances were a delight.

BEEF To the government at all levels. Nanaimo ranks sixth in all of Canada for crime severity. How exactly does your woke agendas and drug utopia work now? What a failure of an experiment it all has been. What you have worked at building has failed miserably.

BOUQUET To J. Mayzes Excavating Ltd. I live on Bird Sanctuary Drive and for the past few weeks, their double dump trucks have been driving up and down our street. Your drivers are courteous and respectful to our neighbourhood, they are driving slowly, not kicking up dust and making as little noise as possible.

BEEF Have you ever been stopped at an intersection and a pedal biker just simply rides through? I always thought that bike and now e-bikes need to follow the rules of the road just like cars. Where you can really witness this is on Metral Drive which hosts the brand-new bike and walking path. It’s like they own the road and answer to no one.

BOUQUET Thank you to the gardener for the beautiful row of sunflowers against the white picket fence on Machleary Street, so beautiful and brings joy to so many people who walk and drive by.

BEEF To the practitioner who needs a lesson in how to speak respectfully to people.

BOUQUET To the ending of daylight savings time. I’m envisioning next spring, when it’s likely protesters will be on the pedestrian overpass holding clocks upside-down.

BEEF To RDN Transit for not installing a wheelchair-accessible bus stop on Fitzwilliam outside of the supportive housing building. A person who uses a wheelchair has to try and wheel themselves uphill to the next bus stop to get onto a bus. Not acceptable.

BOUQUET To Janel, the face of LifeLabs at the Island Highway location. Always pleasant, welcoming and efficient.

BEEF To the three cyclists on Hammond Bay Road who were riding on the sidewalk when a bicycle lane was right alongside you. The taxpayers of Nanaimo paid many millions of dollars to put bicycle lanes in. The least you can do is use them.

BOUQUET To the lovely young man driving the garbage truck. I was sitting out front enjoying the sun. When the bin was being lowered, it went into the drainage ditch. He got out of the truck and uprighted the bin. I’m a senior who can get down but has trouble getting up without something to hold on to. I thanked him and he said he’d do that again if needed.

BEEF To our school district for wasting money on the automated sign outside the school which serves no purpose other than to post already known times/dates of school events or useless slogans. No wonder there are no funds for teachers, special aides, lunches or supplies.

BOUQUET To the person who found my wallet and turned it in to Fit 4 Less staff. Your honesty was really appreciated and made a very stressful situation initially into a minor issue. Thank you again.

BEEF To the people who have their licence plates covered, obscured or scratched off completely. Hard to believe it’s an accident when the vehicles themselves are pristine, but the plate is destroyed. Why aren’t tickets being handed out?

BOUQUET To the staff of the pet boutique. It’s sadly closed now, but the staff were always great and showed so much care for our animal friends’ special needs. They will be missed.

BEEF To whoever broke into the food truck, you are a selfish, unkind, and a terrible person, I hope karma tracks you down and bites you. Shame on you.

BOUQUET Thanks to the lady for giving Harley cookies every morning and fruit for his owner. Your home is so well looked after. I enjoy it every day.
