Beef to the rude dog walker who threw a full poop bag 30 feet from the road into my carport.

BOUQUET To Greg and his team at Craftsman Collision. Our 24-year-old Toyota Camry looks brand new again thanks to the expertise and hard work of these pros, we highly recommend them.

BEEF To the thief who recently spirited away the cute statue of a little gardening boy from our complex near the university. This small figure was a daily source of pleasure to all the residents here. He was lovingly restored by a resident artist and was cleverly dressed for special occasions. We’d love to see him returned with no questions asked.

BOUQUET On a recent expedition to find a new couch for my apartment, I found myself at Hartmann and Co. A giant thank you to Nick, Michael and all the staff for the super easy and excellent service for this purchase.

BEEF to drivers who do not use their headlights all the time. These lights are there for a reason morning, noon and night. Think safety before you head out on the roads.

BOUQUET To the person who found my eyeglasses in the grey case beside my truck in the parking lot at HomeSense on Thanksgiving weekend and kindly put them on the hood of my truck for me to see. Thank you very much.

BEEF To the prime minister. Now that you and your cabinet have left the sanctuary of Nanaimo, reality is calling saying your time in political office is finished.

BOUQUET To the many Nanaimo drivers who show uncommon courtesy to buses every day. Especially at four-way stops, even when they’re first, they let the bus go, also in heavy traffic and in merging zipper lanes they let the bus in without honking. Just so you all know we bus drivers deeply appreciate your actions and want you to know they don’t go unnoticed.

BEEF To the people who keep on vandalizing bus shelters. One day your moronic acts will get you in water way over your heads.

BOUQUET Recently I went to NRGH on five of seven days. All staff were friendly, informative and professional. I had excellent service. Well done to all.

BEEF To the homeowner for not taking responsibility of telling the gardener about a really old soaker hose amongst overgrown shrubs that never get watered. Consequently I was threatened and ordered to purchase brand-new hoses. Also left a bad review of my business. Bouquet for homeowners telling gardeners about irrigation systems, etc.

BOUQUET To the courteous sales staff and delivery service from Trail Appliances when I purchased a stove.

BEEF To the City of Nanaimo for the big obsession with the public works yard because it’s not very healthy for the Nanaimo taxpayers’ money.

BOUQUET We (two seniors) were shopping at the Real Canadian Superstore. A lady was standing at the end of the next till, and as our order went through our till she reached over and gave the cashier her credit card, paying for a large amount of groceries. Thank you so much. Will pay back when able.

BEEF A woman was driving near Long Lake with a white dog between her and the steering wheel.

BOUQUET To Dr. Reed, chiropractor, and the great staff at the Wellhouse for all the amazing work they do. It is relaxing just entering their office.

BEEF Elections are just like Halloween but instead of getting candy you get a Halloween bag full of political promises.

BOUQUET A little while ago I was the grateful recipient of a jump start for my car at the Mid-Island Co-op at Brooks Landing. I offered to get a coffee and doughnut to say thank you and the gentleman politely declined, saying that someone had done a kind thing for him a little while ago, and this was a chance to pay it forward. Thank you for the heart-warming assist.

BEEF At Dufferin Crescent and Seafield Crescent there is a small patch of so-called sidewalk that was never finished, leaving a gravel section which is challenging for people who use wheelchairs and walkers. The same area needs a curb so cars don’t park on the sidewalk.

BOUQUET To Dynamic Orthotics and bracing, thanks for great service and pricing. Worth the drive.

BEEF To businesses that require entrants to enter contests using a QR code. Why not include a paper or e-mail entry? Not everyone has the technology for this. Same goes for using this method for promotions and locations.

BOUQUET To Wild Tails Grooming for providing exceptional care to ElderDog Nanaimo-Oceanside’s canine clients. These dogs are so well-groomed, they barely look like their former dishevelled selves.

BEEF To the gentleman standing in line at the bakery who mercifully stopped scratching himself when he finished every body part above the waist.

BOUQUET To Tiffany, Katie, Kat and the rest of the amazing staff at Country Club Starbucks. You go above and beyond every time. We love you.

BEEF To Elections B.C. On election day I had to drive from Ladysmith to Parksville during an atmospheric river storm – 70 kilometres to go vote. Just terrible.

BOUQUET To my husband for believing in me, I don’t know what I would do without you by my side. The love from you is unconditional. You are so awesome.

BEEF Due to your poor manager skills, please step down.

BOUQUET To Anna at Island Savings at Woodgrove Centre, you are fantastic and a great representative for the credit union, from the TFSA lady.

BEEF To all the drivers who merge into one line too early when one lane is closed. Use both lanes and merge at the merge point, just as you do when you cross the Lions Gate Bridge on the North Shore. It’s called a zipper merge.

BOUQUET I admitted myself into the Nanaimo emergency room. After three and a half hours I returned home feeling very well cared for. I was shown respect and compassion, all tests were quick and efficient. Lab work, medical imaging, and two meetings with Dr. M. Pullman. Our medical team can be short-staffed, pressured and overworked. Rather than complaining or feeling impatient let’s try to appreciate their dedication and expertise.

BEEF To the rude dog walker who threw a full poop bag 30 feet from the road into my carport. I guess I’m lucky it didn’t burst.

BOUQUET To transit drivers. Due to car troubles, I had to take buses this past week and I was impressed and thankful for all the kind and knowledgeable drivers who got me and all the other riders to our destinations. Thanks for doing a tough job professionally and safely.

BEEF I sympathize with the lady who had to wait three sailings for a ferry. I found myself in a similar situation last summer, arriving at Horseshoe Bay at 3 p.m. with no reservation and waiting until the 10:45 p.m. sailing. When B.C. Ferries started the reservation system many years ago, only a small part of the car deck was allocated for reservation. Now it seems only a small part is allocated for persons driving up with no reservations. Why doesn’t B.C. Ferries inform the general public of this change or just make all vehicles have reservations?

BOUQUET To the staff of Arbutus Fire Protection for preventing harm to a favourite elderly neighbour when he was followed and screamed at in our apartment parking lot. Beef to the bully in the hatchback.

BEEF To the clothing expert. I’m an adult with free will and I can dress how I like. There is no dress code in Canada so mind your own business.

BOUQUET To those slamming the carbon tax. You’re right: it’s woefully insufficient to punish polluters. A tax isn’t enough – rather, we should be imposing actual bans and criminal charges where applicable, to those poisoning our discourse and environment in the name of subsidized fossil fuel bigwigs on corporate welfare.

BEEF To the dog owners who don’t pick up after their pets. It’s disgusting to leave dog poop everywhere for others to find. I hope karma catches up with these people.

BOUQUET To Kim at Canada Post. You’re such a great co-worker who always is willing to listen and put a smile on our faces. Thanks for all you do.

BEEF To those who continue to support socialism. This political way of thinking has an inevitable and historical end game. It has yet to wash upon our shores, but it will one day soon.

BOUQUET A big thank you to cashier Carolyn at Country Grocer for the gift card. Your generosity helped when I needed it. Your kindness inspires me.

BEEF Our justice system must be revamped. I have to say that this NDP government has a completely light attitude toward serious crimes, you do not even have proper sentencing fitting the crime. It will be different if one of your own family loved ones is the victim, then maybe you will then change some of the penal laws in this province.

BOUQUET To the beefer who recognizes that ivy is an invasive plant and is a problem in our parks. Instead of beefing, please consider joining one of the invasive plant work parties or the parks ambassador program. Volunteers are working hard on the invasive plant problems and can always use more help.
