Beef to the older gentleman in the red pickup truck who burst into the fast food restaurant berated, swore, and yelled at the staff. No one deserves abuse because your fries were cold from the drive-thru. I hope you were embarrassed afterwards. Huge bouquet to the young fellow customer who stood up for the workers.

BOUQUET To the City of Nanaimo for keeping Maffeo Sutton Park vibrant and welcoming with gorgeous autumn blooms. The mid-October floral displays showcase exceptional dedication to creating a year-round haven for residents and visitors alike.

BEEF Why no e-vote? In 2004, I began the idea for ‘vote by mail’ and electronic ballot scanning. In 2021, I received a U.S. patent for a computerized voting system which includes voting with smartphones, faxes and computers. I filed for patents in Canada which bureaucracy disabled, so far. Why waste billions every election? We bank securely via internet, Canada can be empowered to e-vote.

BOUQUET To my wife. Get well soon.

BEEF To the person who commented about people looking their best when they go out to shop. Some people don’t have the time/energy or finances to do this. For some people it takes everything for them to just get out of the door, don’t judge a book by its cover.

BOUQUET To Chick to Sea Express. Always friendly service, good prices and tasty food. Even see them once in a while giving food to people in need. Bless your business.

BEEF To veterinarians who are charging such a high fee to get animals spayed or neutered that people are not getting it done. Animal shelters are encouraging pet owners to get their animals fixed but many people cannot afford the high fees.

BOUQUET To Kathy at NRGH’s recovery room. I was there recently after having a knee replacement surgery. Kathy was professional, kind, and attentive. She took time, even as busy as it was, to explain things to me and calm my fears.

BEEF To our health authority for not providing a fully funded and staffed 24/7 rehab centre free of charge. Normally I have no sympathy for drug addicts, for they have made their choices. However, for those who truly desire to stop, there is no place to go to get help. Sobriety must be the ultimate goal, not harm reduction centres sold as the only alternative.

BOUQUET To both Tulsa Road and Beban Park Bloodshack Haunted Houses. Each artfully crafting an atmosphere of spook and scream, you’ve provided great family memories. Bonus Boo-quet for the Bloodshack volunteer who found my donation money after it blew away in the wind. Thanks so much.

BEEF To the family that left their elderly mother to fend for herself while travelling then blaming the ferries. You can make arrangement sahead of time to ensure someone will escort a person in need onto the ferry, but that is it. This is on you. Where were you to help your elderly mom?

BOUQUET To the Port Theatre. I was fortunate to see two shows recently, the Andrew Lloyd Webber concert and the Frankenstein ballet. Thank you for bringing these two shows to Nanaimo. Both absolutely stunning, especially the latter, such talent. Also many thanks to the volunteers who assist at the theatre.

BEEF To the management at transit who fail to recognize the professional and caring drivers, mechanics, support staff they have.

BOUQUET To Nanaimo Fire Rescue. They were doing smoke detector checks in our neighbourhood and let us bring our two-year-old out to have a look at the truck. He absolutely loved it and it was so kind of them to take the time to go above and beyond for us. Keep up the good work.

BEEF To dish soap companies for using such strong scents. Either you’re hiding something or you are completely tone deaf to cooks around the world. I don’t want my dishes nor my coffee mug to smell like air freshener.

BOUQUET To the lady who recognized a Royal Canadian Legion member and veteran when I was gassing up at Mid Island Co-op at Brooks Landing. Your donation to our poppy fund will be appreciated by the community and veterans.

BEEF To the older gentleman in the red pickup truck that burst into the fast food restaurant berated, swore, and yelled at the staff. No one deserves abuse because your fries were cold from the drive-thru. I hope you were embarrassed afterwards. Huge bouquet to the young fellow customer who stood up for the workers.

BOUQUET To those who made an effort in reducing their carbon emissions this year. Since the carbon tax was introduced, British Columbians have reduced their fuel consumptions by 16.1 per cent, greatly reducing CO2 emissions. Lytton, Jasper, Milton and Helene are the canaries in the coal mine and should not be ignored by future governments. The cost of repair will be far greater than the meagre cost of a carbon tax.

BEEF To the post on American squirrels eating bird eggs. Have you ever observed raccoons/bigger birds dining in the wild? There are other risks to bird populations. I saw an immediate decline in all birds after toxic spraying for insects this year.

BOUQUET To the person who took cigarettes from outside our house but did not take our bong, grinder, blankets or heater. We understand that nicotine is a comfort during hard times, and truly appreciate your restraint.

BEEF To this last election. What is the point?

BOUQUET To the skeleton house on Philip Road in Lantzville for your creativity and commitment to putting out a new skeleton display every day. We especially enjoyed the bubble bath one. Thanks for making us laugh without fail. Looking forward to your Christmas display with Santa.

BEEF The carbon tax encourages people to reduce their fossil fuel use. Now we only pay $7.50 per person per month in carbon tax, so that’s an improvement. The world would be a better place if everybody made a similar effort, instead of complaining.

BOUQUET Thank you Gordon, my lawn cutter in Woodgrove Estates. Lovely job with each cut, great personality and trustworthy.

BOUQUET I was delighted to see that Milano’s Ristorante is now open for breakfast. It is such a big, comfortable space with lots of booths. The breakfast was a good portion and delicious. And the staff was so friendly. I highly recommend it.

BEEF To our so-called leaders. What is abundantly clear is you live behind walls, fences and heavy security where public access is limited; however, in the same breath you speak of open borders, tolerance and decreasing police and protections for the general public.

BOUQUET To all the workers who provide nutritious meals with lots of variety to patients at NRGH. My recent stay there was made easier because of all of you.

BEEF To the beefer about carbon tax. First off, the carbon tax is not squandered by politicians as they see fit. It is put towards green initiatives, and the remainder goes back to taxpayers in the form of a rebate. Secondly, the carbon tax does not raise the price of everything. Corporate greed does.

BOUQUET Thank you to Ethan Katzberg for creating positive news regarding Nanaimo. You’re a role model as an Olympian, are well-spoken and portray a great attitude. Thank you for shining our city in a good light.

BEEF To the beefer regarding holding a candidate responsible for historical comments. We have a right to know if they still hold those views and if not, why they changed their position. In voting, the candidate’s past is important.

BOUQUET To Jim at J. Koster Electric who came to replace my dining room dimmer switch after it had caught fire. I so appreciated his calm manner when I was quite rattled. Jim also answered other electrical questions I had. What a gentleman he is.

BEEF To the person who messed with my licence plate on my motorbike and bent it up this past week; which sticker(s) offended you?

BOUQUET To all high school sports teams and athletes, especially the Grade 12s looking to end their high school sports careers in a positive way. Good luck this season.

BEEF To the RCMP cruiser blazing 120 kilometres an hour through the 90km/h zone. No sirens, no emergency. Just impatience. We noticed you also proved speeding makes no gains as you had to stop at each red light the rest of us did. Forget your watch commander – I’m calling your mother.

BOUQUET To all the hard-working and very organized volunteers at the recent harvest dinner at the Cedar Community Hall. The entertainment was great. The food was hearty and delicious. We were encouraged to go back for a second plate. What an old-fashioned fundraiser it was with thankful smiling faces all around. See you next year for sure.

BEEF To the people who stole my bike from my campsite, you are terrible. I hope bad things come upon you, and I wish nothing good to you.
