BOUQUET Thank you to the RCMP officer Adam and the lady who stopped her car and came to my assistance when I had a fall at Oliver Woods. People like you make this world a better place.
BEEF To the runner dressed all in black at 7:30 a.m. when it was very dark, running along Uplands Drive. Wear something reflective or better yet, a light.
BOUQUET We were lucky to have more than 300 trick-or-treaters visit our home on a wet, dark windy night. Wonderful costumes, great manners and super costumes – and fantastic parents supporting the kids. One of the best group costumes we saw was six young women all dressed as Minions with professional-level costumes and wonderfully positive attitudes.
BEEF To all those responsible for leaving their firework residue all along the road in the Northfield area. Spent cartridges from rockets were left on the grass. Were you never taught to pick up and dispose of your garbage? It’s the neighbourly thing to do.
BOUQUET To Clay Tree Society for your wonderful haunted house. A special mention to the purple room staff, your hard work is so appreciated and does not go unnoticed. Great job, everyone.
BEEF To the woman who advised my aunt, who was walking her little dog at Buttertubs, that dogs were not allowed in the park. She just moved into the neighbouring seniors housing and has dementia, and sometimes forgets that she can’t walk her dog there. So thank you for reminding her. However, you didn’t need to call her ignorant and berate her.
BOUQUET To That 50’s Barbershop for arranging another successful Fresh Start for school students. Such a community-minded Nanaimo shop.
BEEF To the voters of Nanaimo. Who in their right mind would vote for the status quo? Is everything so great in your opinion that there’s no need for a change? Beam me up Scotty!
BOUQUET Thank you to my fellow worker bees on final voting night, with an extra special hug to Taylor who made me laugh. It was a long day, but you made it go fast and I had a blast.
BEEF To the pharmacy staff who had a coupon available but did not know if it was current, did not understand what it applied to and could not have cared less. I won’t be shopping at your store again. To the store manager – please train your staff to better understand what you are promoting.
BOUQUET To Matt of Andre’s Electronics. We are seniors and he gave us great service when we purchased a new Sony TV. A great TV and a good price. He even delivered the TV and hooked it up and took the old TV.
BEEF To the property manager who lied under oath at a recent hearing. Shame on you. Karma will find you.
BOUQUET To the warm-hearted people of Nanaimo. Thank you for making Nanaimo not just a place, but a home in the hearts of many.
BEEF Regarding the loud pipes save lives beefers. I have also been riding for over 35 years and we were cut off, almost sideswiped and even had people go around us while we were sitting at lights every time we were on the road. When we purchased our 2019 Indian we were finally being heard. We did not modify the exhaust, they are making them sound louder because people are oblivious to us otherwise. For us, it’s all about getting home safe, not attention or how we look.
BOUQUET To my dear friend Michelle for choosing the West Coast swing night at East Wellington Hall to celebrate her birthday. Congrats for busting out of the usual ways to celebrate and including us – we had a great time. Thanks to the members/regulars and dance coach that night.
BEEF To the person laying on their horn for no reason while driving up and down the street. Why? If you have to express your hostilities, express them to a therapist rather than your neighbours.
BOUQUET We are so appreciative of the work of the construction crew working on the house on the corner of Stonewater and Ravenswood. It is wonderful the immaculate way you leave the property every single day after work.
BEEF To cab drivers who think that rules do not apply to them, for example parking in disability parking spots, running red lights, running stop signs, double parking and speeding down streets. It has been going on for years and nothing has been done about it.
BOUQUET A great thank you to the Regional District of Nanaimo for having homeowners be able to upgrade to a larger-sized green bin in the spring. This makes it so much easier for us plus your debris will be put to good use.
BEEF To the beefers. Myth buster: you obviously hear them, therefore you are aware of them. Now you won’t change lanes without knowing we are there. Loud pipes save lives.
BOUQUET to women. God speed.
BEEF To the busybodies trying to tell people what they can and cannot do in their free time. What do you care if strangers smoke crack?
BOUQUET To the person who called out the man in the red pickup who abused the food workers. No one should be treated that way. Everyone deserves to be respected. This man is no gentleman.
BEEF Following my bouquet last week, the cigarette thief either returned, or was copied, and this time they took more. I won’t be leaving anything else out for you to steal. Stay safe out there.
BOUQUET Thanks Tania at Buy-Low Foods for getting me out of a pinch. Instead of deciding between rice or beans, I get rice and beans for supper this week.
BEEF To the refund policy for the transportation company. I had booked four return tickets but had to cancel, and I was only refunded 50 per cent of the total fare with a loss of $157. Beware.
BOUQUET To the two super gentleman who interrupted their cycling journey to stop and change my flat tire. They happened to be riding through the PetSmart parking lot at just the right moment to save the day. Thank you so much.
BEEF Time for the Canadian government to overhaul or get rid of the postal service. A package sent to me from Richmond went to Winnipeg then came here to Nanaimo. Two weeks. No wonder mail gets lost. The few postal workers I am loosely acquainted with abuse their workplace benefits costing the system huge money.
BOUQUET To the family on Extension Road who were moving and left a complete Wii system out for free a couple of months ago. Please think of this senior woman who has been wanting one for years! It was raining outside today and I had such fun while using it that I laughed out loud. Thank you for helping me get fitter and healthier.
BEEF Starting my walk at the park, I was jolted by the very obtrusive, invasive structures intruding on nature’s green and brown beauty in our park. City hall could use these.
BOUQUET To the man canvassing for the World Wildlife Fund in the Hammond Bay area. Your passion and knowledge of the issues facing our planet was extraordinary. You’ll be happy to know I did go on the website to become a monthly supporter.
BEEF To the City of Nanaimo on its road narrowing project at Hammond Bay Road. The grossly widened sidewalk has resulted in making Hammond Bay Road more dangerous, and it greatly increases the risk of head-on collisions. It creates confusion for motorists who aren’t expecting such a massive intrusion into the road. This dis-improvement needs to be re-examined.
BOUQUET To the nice young lady who stopped to check on me, called for help, and stayed until help came after I hit a deer on the Parkway. I am sorry I did not ask for your name, but please know that this senior really appreciated it. You have my contact info, please call so I can thank you properly.
BEEF To the patient in line at the lab. A ‘standing order’ means that you don’t have to get another requisition each time you go for lab tests. It does not mean that you get to jump the queue in front of those that have made appointments, or walked in.
BOUQUET To dry erase markers for being the best removers of permanent marker ink off of most hard surfaces. Try it, it’s a game changer.
BEEF By final count the NDP won a slim majority. Premier Eby thanked British Columbians for returning the NDP to majority government. However, since the NDP got only 44.9 per cent of the popular vote, claiming ‘majority’ support is illegitimate, as actually a 55.1 per cent majority voted against the NDP.
BOUQUET To the hospital parking beefer. Current parking is untenable. The hospital and adjacent health unit and home support services will only expand in future. Help!
BEEF To date I have been quietly supportive of changes to roadways in Nanaimo. However, I find the recent changes on Hammond Bay Road need to be called out. Narrowing one short block to add a bicycle lane and a two-metre boulevard has resulted in a very sudden and dangerous narrowing of the road.
BOUQUET To Lynda and Theo of Olivers Pet Supplies for their help and follow-up to obtain the replacement parts I needed for cat carriers. Thank you.
BEEF To those caught spreading malicious gossip which has no basis in fact. And, after being offered opportunity to clarify any misunderstanding, running in the other direction upon seeing the target of your slander. It’s nothing short of childish and reflects the behaviours that brought you to where you are today.
BOUQUET To the VCA Canada Island Animal Hospital. Dr. Large and the team that works there together are truly amazing. With a fast confident diagnosis, efficient, concise and immediate emergency intervention, medication and blood lab analysis, my little pup Roy Boy was saved from a fatal health crisis crash. I am so very grateful.
BEEF To the religious canvasser for unlocking my back gate and walking into my backyard and knocking on my back door. You’re trespassing. I’d report you to your church, but I’m sure they would be proud of your audacity.
BOUQUET To Ms. Balcombe of Wellington Secondary School for volunteering, helping students with math after school even after your very well-earned retirement last year.
