BOUQUET I just want to thank all those working in various positions at NRGH. Competent, kind, and so accommodating to patients needing care. We are so lucky to have such a wonderful facility.
BEEF To our barely elected provincial government that bribed the electorate with monetary gifts – sorry, rebates. Now it seems you don’t have the cash to pay us for our votes. How convenient.
BOUQUET To the lovely ladies whom I chatted with at the Caledonian Clinic. I enjoyed our brief conversation. I had a little thought to myself how sad it was that we were all on our phones and within five minutes, a couple of us were chatting and slowly everyone put away their phones and enjoyed the moment. It really made my day.
BEEF Instead of all the bike lanes, try doing something about the traffic lights. Today doing my job, I came to 26 traffic lights and only two were green. This is a daily occurrence. Half my tank of gas is used at lights.
BOUQUET To Gordon T. Thank you so very much for giving my car a boost at Long Lake Chiropractic. I had already called for tow truck, but cancelled thanks to you. My lesson learned, don’t drain the battery with lights and radio going when not on. You saved me money and I totally appreciate this help. Proves there are still good people in this world.
BEEF To the big box store. Well my American friend, our time has come to a bitter, sweet end. I must stand with my fellow greedy Canadian corporations instead. I fear, however, your grip is strong and my love for you unwavering, so I don’t know if I actually have the willpower to leave you for good. So for now I bid adieu, but I will be back one day soon, I hope.
BOUQUET To my sister Teri. You’re the best sister and I love you. Thank you for always being my rock and listening when I need a shoulder to cry on.
BEEF To the beefer, beefing about the city not fining home owners and business owners for not clearing their sidewalks. I am a 62-year-old senior in kidney failure. I cleared my sidewalks twice and the plow came by and plowed everything back that I had just shovelled. Why should we shovel when the city doesn’t even plow half the streets?
BOUQUET To the City of Nanaimo. The illuminated displays at Maffeo Sutton Park were beautiful. We went for dinner downtown and capped it off with a walk through the interactive light displays and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Well done.
BEEF To the drivers who speed – and/or are inattentive – creating near-misses with pedestrians who look left, right and behind. In the past four weeks I’ve almost been hit three times, with one car coming within a couple of feet of me. I was in a crosswalk all times, including a crosswalk with yellow flashing lights.
BOUQUET A delayed thank you to the wonderful cab driver who got me safely to the ferry. I was nervous about travelling in the snow and you immediately put me at ease telling me about the sand bags in the trunk. I appreciated that you communicated you would be late, getting me to the ferry on time and our convo along the way.
BEEF Feds dreaming again with multi-billion-dollar high-speed rail service between Toronto and Quebec City. Funny how the powers that be are unable to consistently service a slow train. Need to learn how to walk before you run. Fantasy land, enjoy your visit.
BOUQUET To the smart, witty, and impeccably dressed businesswoman working at the Harewood Trees. The marijuana you sold me was just as you said it would be, and made for a most excellent evening. Thank you, and I hope your employers appreciate you.
BEEF To the government employee who left his vehicle idling all day in front of the courthouse. The operator of this vehicle clearly has zero respect for the environment, local bylaws or the people who are ultimately paying for this waste of money – the taxpayer.
BOUQUET Praise to Carol and Tom with the Nanaimo Salvation Army church. I deeply appreciate your inspiring Bible study groups that teach me how to be closer to God’s love, protection and guidance. Thank you both so very much.
BEEF To the criminal(s) who torched a local politician’s car. Shocking what cowardice people will do in an attempt to silence someone with whom they don’t agree politically. Sounds like this only ignited a fire to keep this brave lady speaking up.
BOUQUET To Vivian, the on-site manager at Safeguard Storage Nanaimo. We rented a U-Haul from her in early February when, unfortunately, our latest snow and colder weather hit. Vivian suggested an earlier pick-up and only charged us for one day even though we had the vehicle for two and a half days. What great service and peace of mind when faced with such obstacles.
BEEF To Beban Pool for not having any booties for me to wear every week to watch my kids at swim lessons. Maybe we can buy more to keep up with the wash cycle? Or else I’ll just wear my shoes as I don’t want plantar warts again.
BOUQUET To the Nanaimo Bulletin for restoring our access to your newspaper. We seniors appreciate not having to waste gas looking for one.
BEEF To the online marketplace users who don’t show up when they say they will. At least have the common courtesy to let the seller know that you won’t be coming.
BOUQUET To whoever got rid of that freedom mural. FYI: Canada is free.
BEEF To the City of Nanaimo. Would be nice if you thought about pedestrians when it snows, and at the minimum cleared the space between the white line and curb on roads that have them. I have balance issues and fell many times because there was nowhere safe to walk.
BOUQUET To Gio, thank you for the lovely treats on Valentine’s Day. I’ll always cherish that sweet gift.
BOUQUET To our grocers that are buying from other countries other than the U.S.A. Perhaps the U.S.A. will feel the lack of food sales and produce sales from Canada. Trump is not treating Canadians with respect so let’s hit them where it matters. Read the labels before buying.
BOUQUET To Michelle at Shopper’s Drug Mart on Mary Ellen Drive. I came in to discuss a prescription my friend had picked up and I feel like I was a bit harsh. Please accept my sincere apology.
BOUQUET So happy to see the freedom mural painted over. That mural was an eyesore in this city.
BOUQUET To the Port Theatre show ‘Whoever Said Opera is Boring’ with the great V.I. Symphony. I saw it and I’m hoping it comes back every year. From a Port Theatre volunteer.
BOUQUET To my fellow pedestrians for surviving the snow. Sure it’s pretty for a couple days, but if you don’t have a car, it’s hell to get around. Cheers to easier travelling and be safe out there.
BOUQUET Thank you to Devon at Fairbrook and Arcadia who offered to shovel off the crusty, icy snow at the end of my driveway. I couldn’t have managed it myself. What a great role model for his boys who waited patiently for him while he shovelled, even though they were on their way to the park for some fun.
BOUQUET Thanks to the paramedics Lesley and Conor, Nanoose Bay Fire Department, and the doctors and nurses at Oceanside Urgent Care and Nanaimo Regional General Hospital for their exemplary care when my husband had an issue with his heart. Your care, concern and support for our daughter, my husband and myself was amazing. Words can never express our gratitude.
BOUQUET To the kind couple in the newer vehicle I accidentally bumped with my minivan. The driver, a kind older man, hugged me when I started crying after scaring you both. I’m truly sorry – and deeply grateful for your kindness and understanding. The world needs more people like you and I will pay the good deed forward.
BOUQUET To the kind soul who found our Toyota Prius key in the parking lot at Neck Point and left it under our windshield wiper so we would be sure to find it.
BOUQUET Thank you to the city for bringing Collective Groove silent disco and Murmur Arts Collective to their Family Day Luminous Paths event at Maffeo Sutton Park. It was so fun to see people young and old having a blast dancing around the park with their lit-up headsets. The performance art was spectacular, I felt a lot of pride in our city doing fun, engaging, artistic activities.
BOUQUET From those of of us who bike and walk on our streets and trails, thank you to our city crews for including the E&N trail in snow-removal operations. It was heartening to see our neighbours commute, exercise and use the trail in spite of the weather.
BOUQUET To those grocery stores that put Canadian flag symbols/maple leafs on their flyers and on their product pricing tags in the stores to show us what is Canadian. It makes it so much easier to buy Canadian.
BOUQUET To Stefan of Nanaimo Family Life Association, who does a great job helping co-ordinate our seniors chair yoga and all the other programs he oversees. Myself and my friend Jeanice are thrilled to benefit from this program.
BOUQUET Thank you to our neighbour Gerry (just turned 90) who drives up to the Nanaimo Bulletin office to pick up our papers and delivers ours to our home.
BOUQUET Super grateful to the Port Theatre for hosting The Debaters. We have not laughed so hard since before COVID. Awesome show and supportive sold-out audience. Please bring more Canadian home-made shows to our theatre.
BOUQUET Super grateful to Hullo ferry – I got to go to Vancouver with my daughter and visit a friend of 50 years, which is a rare occurrence.
BOUQUET To Island Time Saxophone Quartet and Friends for the concert they performed, plus Brechin United Church which supplied the venue. This was a fundraiser in support of ROAR, which helps LGBTQ refugees. The music was fabulous as were the desserts available at intermission for a donation. A great afternoon.
