Beef to the lady in Harewood who constantly puts notes on people’s cars that are parked in an empty lot. That empty lot doesn’t belong to her.

BOUQUET To drivers who know to stop at stop lines with controlled intersections. Those circles you drive over have sensors underneath that detect your vehicle, thereby signalling the light to change. Thank you for stopping in the correct spot.

BEEF Social prescribing for older ‘shut-ins’ to encourage them get out of the house and socialize has problems. First transportation, also some older people are deaf and hearing aids are expensive, although reconditioned hearing aid are becoming available. Bullying does not end in schools or in the workplace, certain older people still unfortunately indulge in this trait.

BOUQUET Public service announcement: If you or your loved ones go to the emergency room, do not take any valuables with you at all. If you see a vulnerable person with valuables like a wedding ring, maybe help them out because it may be stolen from them. Sad, but this is just how it is now and the staff can’t help you. We have to look out for each other.

BEEF The City of Nanaimo should buy the land next to Brechin Boat Ramp for parking. There is not enough summer parking to go boating; the parking lot fills up quick. Don’t let people park there for a week.

BOUQUET To the kind gentleman who bought my husband and I lunch at Kelly’s Kitchen. You were on holidays. You blew us away with your kindness so we wanted to say thank you very much, we passed it on to another couple of ladies too. Thank you for making our day.

BEEF To the mall. Will someone trim the hedges between the coffee shop and the restaurant? They need to be shorter and the sides need to be trimmed a lot, can’t see the cars coming. It’s an accident waiting to happen.

BOUQUET Kudos for the magnificent display of our beautiful flag at Maffeo Sutton Park. Eyes full of tears, and heart full of pride. Well done.

BEEF To the Island grocery store that had no Canadian alternatives in the frozen vegetable section. Guess I’ll have to shop elsewhere in order to support Canadian products.

BOUQUET To Heather and staff at Mid-Island Auto Collision for the great customer service with regard to replacing my wiper blade arm. My driving is not prohibited by rain anymore.

BEEF I pay for a disability parking spot, which I can hardly ever find. Do people who use the family spots have to pay? They should. I see mothers with no family parking there.

BOUQUET To the guy who gifted me a turkey at Superstore in December. It was much appreciated.

BEEF Where was the snow plow? It missed us again. No garbage pickup for three weeks. Not getting my vote for a new building.

BOUQUET To the lovely people of Nanaimo who shout profanities and gesture obscenely at me when I display my American flag. I attempt to engage in civil conversation, yet you resort to swearing and personal attacks. I’m especially grateful because you’ve shown me the error of my thinking. We certainly don’t deserve to be the 51st state of the greatest and freest country in the world.

BEEF To the tax hike in Nanaimo, inflated assessments and the public works yard fiasco. Fix some roads correctly, send all the repeat offenders back to the mainland, like what Nanaimo was known for.

BOUQUET To Scott, the best mailman ever. Your humour and first-class customer service are out of ‘weech.’ Go Oilers.

BEEF To the civic politicians who are using the excuse of the earthquake to try to push through the excessively expensive public works yard after three failed alternative-approval processes. When will you listen to the people?

BOUQUET To the cat clinic for years of cheerful and common-sense support across the lives of my cat companions. We live in trying times for veterinarians too. Thanks for you caring professionalism.

BEEF It is extremely disappointing that there is no clinic in Nanaimo that offers the cardiac rehab program. This is an important program for heart patients. At present the closest one is in Ladysmith.

BOUQUET I would like to thank Dr. Lam for fixing up an old Model T like me. I would also like to thank all the nurses on the third floor for their excellent care.

BEEF Once again, the U.S. president needs to have a history lesson. The U.S. attempted to invade Canada back in 1812. The attempt failed. Guess you didn’t have the cards then and you don’t have the cards now. Never underestimate Canadians.

BOUQUET Thank you to everyone who has collected pull tabs for the MOAs. Please note we are no longer doing this. Our last batch netted $126 which was sent to Camp Goodtimes, a camp for kids with cancer.

BEEF To the U.S. president, though he will never see this. I think I speak for all of us Canadians when I say we are Canada, and that’s how it’s going to stay. We have way too much to lose as Canadians.

BOUQUET To the amazing couple (with their service dog) who helped us at the Charlaine Boat Ramp. They left the boat ramp and returned with cigarettes after we asked if we could buy a couple from them, as we had run out.

BEEF To the stores that do not honour the price on their product but charge $5 more at the till.  The response from the employee was, ‘Oh it happens a lot.’ On my purchase it was a 14-per cent increase in the price. That is a very deceptive and ultimately poor business practice.

BOUQUET To the Quality Foods staff at the Northfield and Bowen store. It’s a small store that has everything we need with a small-town atmosphere making us feel warmly appreciated with interest in me as a customer. Great take-out Chinese food too.

BOUQUET To the City of Nanaimo’s parks and rec department for the amazing display of Canadian flags at Maffeo Sutton Park. Thank you.

BEEF To the person saying you can’t say hi to someone on a walk in the neighbourhood due to struggling. I am struggling too, but keep the hello to maybe help brighten their day. Everyone has stuff going on right now. People who do say hi, thank you. It makes a difference.

BOUQUET Peace and harmony should be of the utmost importance across the globe. We all have differences, but we all bleed the same. Stop this madness and start working towards peaceful solutions. Just imagine we all got along and turned our difference into developing peace and harmony for all.

BEEF To people on the ‘made in Canada’ bandwagon. Unless it says ‘product of Canada,’ your efforts are useless. Give up the ridiculousness.

BOUQUET To the pleasant, conscientious dog walker today who was picking up numerous droppings ignored by lazy owners on the Diver Lake trail behind our strata. She was wearing a nice green jacket, I hope she had a wonderful St. Patrick’s Day the next day.

BEEF To the lady in Harewood who constantly puts notes on people’s cars that are parked in an empty lot. That empty lot doesn’t belong to her.

BOUQUET To the wonderful soul from Ladybug Floral. You saw the hard work on a cold morning in the pouring rain and brought me a rose with a note at the end of the job. On a difficult day with a tough job and life’s struggles that means the world to me. Thank you for being the kind human you are.

BEEF To those vilifying and wanting to tariff electric cars from the U.S. and China. Is climate change no longer an existential crisis? Trying to figure the logic.

BOUQUET To the lady I waved by at the Tim Hortons drive-thru at Dickinson Crossing, thank you for paying for our breakfast, I hope I can pay it forward for you one day.

BEEF To ‘bandwagon jumpers’ who blindly boycott our democratically elected southern neighbour but wilfully support communist China. Wake up.

BOUQUET To Pho Boi. Always a fan of deliciously filling warm comfort food and Pho Boi is one of the best places in town for it. Everything was perfectly seasoned and delicious. The coffee was light and scrumptious. The staff were helpful, knowledgeable, and amazingly fantastic.

BEEF I wish the powers that be, in Nanoose, had had the foresight to mandate developers to build public beach/waterfront access about every 10 houses so that everyone could come and appreciate Mother Nature. Not just those with deep pockets.

BOUQUET Our heartfelt thank you to the neighbour who delivered a small gift in support of the Ukrainian people to our door. You kindness really touched us. Thank you ever so much.
