BOUQUET To the News Bulletin’s paper carriers in the Forest Drive neighbourhood. Through all the snowy and deep freeze weather, the boys got the job done. Thank you for your great effort.
BEEF To transit. Please clear snow from the bus stops, so we are not forced to climb over snow banks or jump to get on/off the bus.
BOUQUET To Ms. B at Pleasant Valley School. My child has faced some challenges both academically and socially this year and you have been such a light. We are so blessed that you are their teacher. You provide such wisdom with such a direct approach, always opening up your classroom to make time to discuss any challenges.
BEEF After a man had a tree disappear into a sinkhole after the earthquake, the mayor goes on to push how needed the upgrades to the public work yard are, so crews can get out and do repairs after an emergency. Strange – how come the big sinkhole on Commercial Street still isn’t repaired so businesses can open?
BOUQUET To the pigeon that used to sit on the wires outside my window every day with his lady love cooing together for hours. Now she is gone and he sits there alone. I see you little fella.
BEEF To sushi restaurants that don’t remove the inedible tail from the prawns when making a dynamite roll. Basically all of you are guilty of this.
BOUQUET To Dr. Derocher and Sue at Central Island Veterinary Emergency Hospital for being so very kind and supportive as I learned that my dear 16-and-a-half-year-old dog, Piper, had reached her end. Their support was immeasurable and remains in my heart always.
BEEF To the beefer who gets hurt feelings when they say hello to someone on the street and that person does not return their greeting. You need to get over yourself. A lot of people are really struggling right now, and you have no idea what that person who did not say hello back to you is going through. A little understanding and compassion, please.
BOUQUET To the staff at the Medical Arts Centre. I had a medical procedure that was time-sensitive and they took me in right away. A very kind, professional, knowledgeable nurse with an excellent and humorous manner did the procedure for me. A true angel. Thank you.
BEEF To Mother Nature for her recent earthquake. You woke me from a much needed granny nap. Rude. If I have to dig my little family out from rubble, I need all the energy I can get.
BOUQUET To Island Pacific Plumbing, so professional, knowledgable and very reasonable. Came out on a holiday Monday to help with a leak. They will be my go-to plumber from now on.
BEEF To the owners who left the dog chained up outside in the cold. He never got in this condition overnight so this is long-term neglect and abuse. You should be fined enough to cover all the expenses of Jace’s care. One day, when you’re in need, I hope you think back to what you’ve done. Thank you to Jace’s rescuers.
BOUQUET To countless kind people in our Facebook community for rallying with heartfelt messages and love that are truly palpable during this time of Piper’s ending. I would be so lost without. Bouquet to many dear friends: Dr. Lekx, Carolyn with Coastal Canine Rehab, Cliff, John and Lynn, and others that reached out to me and are still here for me, alone now.
BEEF To the beefer complaining that we are ridiculous in thinking that we cannot buy Canadian. Learn to read labels. I’m buying lots of goods made in Canada. It’s not impossible at all. Maybe stop listening to the rantings of a certain political party.
BOUQUET To whomever beefed about the driver with an American flag on his pickup. The driver might want to consider moving south.
BEEF To people who claim interactions that don’t go their way as abuse. Don’t cry wolf, don’t misuse words such as gaslighting and narcissist – it’s damaging to survivors and people truly seeking help.
BOUQUET To the nice boy who helped me load my groceries into my house. More men should learn from you.
BEEF To anyone who thinks, when waiting at the checkout, that it’s OK to pick up my grocery purchase to examine it and comment on it. This is not OK. I am too polite to say anything or create a scene, but know that I am mortified as I watch you handle my food item.
BOUQUET To the Winchelseas, a strata complex in which I live. It is a place where neighbours care, look out for each other and help each other out when needed, whether it is shovelling snow for those who cannot or delivering soup to someone who is sick or providing emotional support during challenging times or events. This is community living at its finest.
BEEF To people who can’t back into a parking stall to save their life. How many parking lot collisions could be avoided if you all just did this one simple thing?
BOUQUET To the local stores, in particular Thrifty Foods, Save-On-Foods, and Fairways for making it easier to buy Canadian. Your flyers are so helpful when they mark Canadian products with our great flag, and Fairways – your last flyer with the maple leaf with a heart in it is brilliant. Good job.
BEEF I’ve read some of the reviews, positive ones, to me are completely fake. More like it was done by one of their employees. The negative one seemed substantially more honest.
BOUQUET To the letter writer. Sadly the council is not clever enough to have been promoting your idea since the onset of construction. It is their duty to support, protect and help advance these businesses through good decision-making. They have failed miserably. I go downtown once a week to do exactly what you’re suggesting.
BOUQUET A record number of British Columbians completed a survey in 2019, and more than 93 per cent of respondents indicated they would prefer a move to permanent Daylight Saving Time. More than half responded that it was ‘important’ or ‘very important’ for B.C. to align its time observance with neighbouring jurisdictions.
BEEF As a favour to the people who live in my building, I grabbed a few copies of the newsletters. But as I was soon to find out, I’m forbidden from doing so. I wasn’t aware there was a new policy in place. I got this nasty e-mail from the higher-ups, informing me I’m not allowed in their store.
BOUQUET To the man who, while wearing no rain gear whatsoever, offered his umbrella to myself and my children during a downpour. You are a shining reminder that unhoused or drug user does not mean unkind or inhuman. I hope you get to experience the same kindness that you exude.
BEEF To the city. The $1.8-million designs will be outdated by the time the next council or the one after that manages to borrow enough money to re-build the public works yard.
BOUQUET To Nigel who every week tirelessly works to make sure Nanaimo has a flea market on Saturdays. His cheerfulness and commitment is very much appreciated and very much noticed by all of us.
BEEF To the beef about the B.C. government not keeping its promise on the grocery rebate. If you had given your crystal ball to the premier and company, maybe they would’ve seen the Trump tariffs coming.
BOUQUET To Flavours of India, the meal of vegetarian food was super tasty, with a wide variety and only a tiny bit spicy. The Manchurian was amazing and the paneer is to die for. This is from a confirmed meat eater.
BEEF To people who wear a certain brand of work wear clothing for a fashion statement but haven’t done an ounce of actual trades work in their lives. You are appropriating our look. I only say look because I can’t say culture.
BOUQUET To the relaxing sounds emanating from the singing bowls.
BEEF To the thief who trespassed onto my front yard and stole my heavy cast iron plant stand. Despicable person stealing from a senior.
BOUQUET A huge thank you from a profoundly grateful customer of Staples at Brooks Landing. A young man named Hakim went above and beyond to help this hopelessly confused senior citizen with technology to submit a pair of applications to the government. Without his endless patience, I’d still be sitting there.
BEEF To our leadership for being amateur in these troubling times. You get what you vote for, don’t you? Remember the incompetence, voters.
BOUQUET To Quality Foods South for having regular tills with cashiers and not caving into self-checkouts, displaying a Canadian-owned and operated banner and having the friendliest staff.
BEEF To the practitioner for appearing annoyed when my sibling excitedly approached you with a question. My sibling is brain-injured, and I was saddened a compassionate smile and redirection wasn’t instead shown to them for their error of tainting the vibe, especially as this event was supposed to be healing.
BOUQUET To my good friend and her husband and their dog for hugging me when I come to visit and for brightening my day.
BEEF To some men, are you actually afraid to change the toilet paper roll?
BOUQUET Spring cleaning isn’t just for closets – medicine cabinets need a refresh, too. Expired medications, empty bottles, and outdated prescriptions can pose health risks if left unchecked.
BEEF To the parents who choose to block traffic on the street in front of the elementary school while they wait for a coveted spot in the school parking lot. It is unbelievable that grown adults park blocking the street, preventing traffic from moving. What if there was an emergency? Do better.
