BOUQUET To Aki and his wife on the birth of their second child.
BEEF To RCMP. My client is still suffering from mental and physical trauma after dealing with an officer who talked down to my client like a violent offender. Sad thing is when talking this to the officers’ superiors, it was swept under the rug like they did nothing wrong. The officer is fortunate my client is not taking this matter further, and do not blame them for no longer trusting the RCMP.
BOUQUET To the kind-hearted person who bought a grocery gift card and gave it to the cashier at Country Grocer to pass on to someone who needed it. I was the lucky recipient of this gift. A little can make a world of difference. There are some truly wonderful people out there and this person is one of them. Thank You.
BEEF To the governor-general for accepting a $40,000 pay rise during the pandemic during a time when too many people lost their livelihoods. This is yet another example just how disconnected our government is from the rest of us, who are bleeding dry under their total mismanagement. Canada is turning into the land of talk with no action or accountability.
BOUQUET Thank you Amy at Harewood Dental. When I called in about my appointment and what needed to done, you took care of it all, calling my surgeon for me. Amy is what more professional offices need, someone who makes the patient at ease with their smiling voice and willingness to help.
BEEF To those who claim addiction is a disease, you’re half right. But the decision to start indulging in illegal opioids is not a disease, but a choice that has severe consequences. The only solution is sobriety, not harm reduction. That only delays the inevitable.
BOUQUET To our neighbours on Rosstown Road. We are so lucky to have interesting, kind, thoughtful people all around us. We couldn’t be more grateful. Wishing you an amazing 2023.
BEEF To the B.C. government for kicking the can down the road by decriminalizing small amounts of hard drugs for personal use. Your unwillingness to fund fully staffed rehab centres as part of the health-care system speaks volumes as to your cowardice in avoiding the truth behind this serious issue, denying any hope for those who want to become sober.
BOUQUET Thank you to Shawn at Junk in Our Trunk and his team of Sam, Ronny and Callow for your expert, care and diligence in moving our great-grandma out of her condo to her new ‘retirement’ home and all done in a safe and timely manner. It was a pleasure working with you.
BEEF To the people who smoke hard drugs and then leave their used needles, burnt tinfoil, and pipes along the sidewalk. If you want taxpayers to pay for your drugs, the least you can do is put your garbage in a garbage can.
BOUQUET To the staff at the 7-Eleven on Dover Road. My first visit there, they went out of their way to help me, phoning other stores to see if they had the product in stock or not. They even took the time to take my phone apart so I could access the SIM card.
BEEF It is illegal to let cats run loose in Nanaimo. You should blame the people breaking the law, not those attempting to protect their property. Cat feces are messy and can harm human health.
BOUQUET To Trish and Ron who took such great care of my dear Roxy in her hour of need. Thanks to you both she’s alive and well, and up to her usual silliness.
BEEF To a department store for not picking up the phone most of the time and when you do, you hang up. That is shameful. No wonder you are not No. 1 anymore for customer service.
BOUQUET To the great teller at the Nored Plaza ScotiaBank. Even though it was almost closing time, you counted out my large pile of coins and were incredibly patient and sweet about it. Thank you.
BEEF To the U.S. newspaper for hiding my crossword completion time statistics from me. Share the info. I can’t be alone in thinking this is an issue.
BOUQUET To all the doctors, nurses, clerks and volunteers at the Nanaimo hospital cancer clinic. This is a place of compassion, joy and hope. I felt safe during my treatments. You’re all special.
BEEF To the two shoplifters who were in the pet store when you got busted by the clerks for stealing. You were asked to leave the store and not once did you deny stealing. We stuck around outside the store after the police arrived. How you left without being in the back of the police car is amazing to us. Clearly you were caught red-handed and you and your sidekick deserve whatever punishment you receive.
BOUQUET Thank you so much to the lady who paid for my groceries at Country Grocer. I will pay it forward.
BEEF To people who walk and ride bikes at night in the rain without any type of reflective gear or lighting. I would think that ICBC, in a proactive manner, would provide every licensed vehicle with a minimum of five inexpensive safety vests for people to give to the folks who wear all black at night. Don’t be something that gets bumped in the night.
BOUQUET Hoots of happiness for the carved wooden owls that have been placed in various parks and walking trails in the area. They are so fun to spot when we are out walking. Keep up the creativity.
BEEF To those who wave their flags on top of the walkway with kids in tow. We get it. You‘ve ruined the flag and hate the democratic process. But do you have to bring your children into it? They’re up there bored out of their minds and freezing cold while you protest. Get a sitter or stay home. It’s not fair to them.
BOUQUET To Lantzville’s would-be developer. Thanks for clearing the unsightly and invasive broom and blackberry from your properties, opening up beautiful vistas for all.
BEEF Fix your broken and burned-out headlights people. For every 10-20 cars I see driving at night, there is someone with a light out on their car. This place is dark at night. Why is no one getting pulled over for this?
BEEF To the grocery store that hired the clerk who tried to ban the lady who became frustrated with the self-checkout and used a swear word. You need to hire folk with de-escalation, not escalation skill, and provide more instruction for your clients.
BEEF To the beefer about voting for change in the last election. Firstly this council did not change. Six of nine were returned to their seats. So do not expect anything different from what you had before. That is what you get when you don’t show up, because the other side always does.
BEEF I am a little dismayed that you didn’t mention the restaurant where my daughter and I had our overpriced pot of tea each. It is factual, it did happen, I supplied my name and address for verification. I would hate for people to assume it was a different restaurant.
BEEF To the fundraiser. Every year the purchase of the gold hearts is harder and harder, couldn’t find any last year and no reply to e-mails. One would think every penny would be appreciated but apparently not.
BEEF To car dealerships that refuse to warranty cars they sell within the year and mileage, and don’t have to explain the refusal. This is absolute theft.
BEEF To the person complaining about their rescue kitty caught in a neighbour’s trap. Did you know cats are not allowed to roam in Nanaimo? Your kitty should be kept inside and this would not have happened. Be a responsible pet owner and don’t blame people for not wanting your cat doing its business in their yard and killing birds.
BEEF To whoever dumped their dirty cat litter at Colinwood Park in the forest. My kids play there and now I have to tell them to stay out of the forest because it’s full of cat poo and cat litter. We found it very disrespectful.
BEEF To the judge who did not sent a drug trafficker to jail for life. The fight against drugs is never going to stop if judges keep enabling instead of punishing drug dealers.
BEEF I’m in disbelief that the homicide outside the downtown Nanaimo mall was not put on the front page of the local newspaper. What on Earth could be more important than that?
BEEF All EV charging stations in Canada should be accessible to all EV drivers. Segregated chargers are as bad as they sound. They increase costs and discourage EV adoption.
BEEF To those who allow their cats into my yard and garden. My home and property should be a safe place for songbirds to nest and my family to grow food. Instead, I find piles of feces and smell urine everywhere. My toddler loves the birds that your cat loves to kill. Live traps are what I have chosen to deal with my pest problem.
BEEF To the young woman who had a German shepherd at Departure Bay Beach. You tossed your dog a ball and it immediately came at a full run in a raging attack at my little leashed dog. If I hadn’t intervened, it would’ve been horrible. I had to tell you twice to leash your dog. My quiet afternoon beach walk with my dog was ruined by your irresponsible behaviour.
