Beef to the person who found my lost cards and redeemed 40,000 points at the supermarket. I hope you enjoyed your purchases and you kept the card because you really needed it and not because you’re dishonest.

BOUQUET Thank you to Tammy Galvin at 460 Realty for her outstanding service during our recent real estate purchase. She listened to what we were looking for, went above and beyond to meet our needs, and did it all with a smile. It was truly a pleasure working with you.

BEEF To the person who found my lost cards and redeemed 40,000 points at the supermarket. Imagine my surprise when I got the e-mail congratulating me with the date, time and place of where it was used. I hope you enjoyed your purchases and you kept the card because you really needed it and not because you’re dishonest.

BOUQUET To the gentleman server at Carlos O’Bryans, who, when he works in the tent, puts a bowl of ice water out for the dogs. Our pups sure do appreciate it.

BEEF To ‘friends’ who are too ignorant or lazy to research sources other than mainstream media to learn what’s really going on in the world, global and current events and loudly badmouth my well-informed views.

BOUQUET To the wonderful Oceanside Urgent Care nurse, Jan. You were so kind and personable and reassuring to this mom-to-be recently. I won’t forget it.

BEEF To all the drivers who don’t have the common sense to have your taillights/marker lights turned on while driving visibility is reduced due to raining and/or night time. Not only are you a safety hazard to yourself but others as well. We all want to get to our respective destinations safely.

BOUQUET To the fisherman at Diver Lake, who gave my niece some fishing line. The kids made several ‘fishing rods’ with sticks they found and had a great time. Thank you.

BEEF I doubt the mayor nor any councillor would have voted the approval of a 194,000-square-foot, multi-phase, two-storey data centre in their own neighbourhood. It’s very disturbing the re-zoning of this beautiful rural residential area has conveniently been changed to high-tech industrial without enough consideration for the neighbourhood, the wildlife and water supply.

BOUQUET To the Nanaimo RCMP, victim services workers, Haven Society and Ladysmith to Duncan, all you guys have been nothing but amazing, supportive and understanding. I genuinely owe you so much. It took a lot of courage to leave a dangerous situation that I could not see an end in sight. You saved me and my babies immensely.

BEEF To big box stores. You ask us for donations to the food bank and to fight homelessness, but you do not match our donations. Instead you use our money to get a charity tax write-off while squeezing us for groceries. Shameful. Greedy. It’s not too late to redeem yourselves.

BOUQUET To Dr. J.T. and the marvellous staff at Mahalo clinic for their compassion and kindness towards us when we had to make the sad decision to say goodbye to Oreo. New to their clinic, we found their professionalism above and beyond the normal. Many thanks.

BEEF To the grocery store clerk who was a complete buzzkill when I playfully said ‘let’s race’ with my trolley as he was pushing another cart of supplies. I hope that you can find some happiness in your life. You ruined a moment to connect with another human.

BOUQUET To Jara, miss our lovely chats and your wonderful soul. Just wanted to let you know school is going very well.

BEEF To the co-worker with full-time benefits and seniority who’s taking advantage of the clinic and inconveniencing her co-workers. If you don’t want to work your shifts, be honest and quit.

BOUQUET To Tina. Not only did you remember me but you were thinking of me. It was the most super-duper, wonderful, kindest thing that I have ever received. A simple thank you just can’t convey enough how this made me feel. May only good karma follow you for a very long time. Hoot! Hoot!

BEEF To sports teams that don’t select local players. Your teams want community support, but you don’t support athletes who were born, raised, and played all their youth in Nanaimo.

BOUQUET To Kleijn Nurseries. The plants that were donated to help with decor made the venue look absolutely stunning. We appreciate the support that you have given Cedar Secondary students.

BEEF Nanaimo has a great number of bike trails, but unfortunately maintenance is lacking. Only three small sections of the trail south of Jingle Pot/Mostar have been repaired since last year. There are literally dozens of areas where it is becoming dangerous to ride a bike, especially on the trails south of VIU. Riders have marked many sections with spray paint where the pavement is broken. It is a shame that it seems nothing is being done to repair these areas.

BOUQUET To bus drivers. In winter I take a bus to my daughter’s every Sunday as I don’t like to drive in cold weather. I have to transfer to No. 8 at VIU which was leaving seconds before No. 40 arrived. I asked the driver if he could ask No. 8 to wait for me and they did – it saved me an hour waiting in the cold.

BEEF Why don’t local politicians want to be recorded? You would think being recorded would be better than being misquoted.

BOUQUET To Trish D. for making such gorgeous succulent pots for sale. Her work is truly admirable. But a beef to whoever stole her planter pots. Such a shame to steal from a local gardener.

BEEF To the beefer who thinks appreciating noisy V8 muscle cars is a generational thing. Sorry, noisy then, but more numerous and far louder and obnoxious now. One very recent psychological study found loud car drivers were not showoffs at all, rather they had sadistic tendencies. Seems they enjoy the pain and suffering they generate.

BOUQUET To the young gentleman from R. and Co. Plumbing who helped me at Milner’s Recycling when I locked my car with everything inside. I then forgot my husband’s phone number, but he calmed me and I eventually got it straight. Thank you very much.

BEEF To the agency. I just drove by your Nanaimo facility, and noted that you are flying the Canadian flag upside-down. I suggest you remedy this situation immediately, and advise your staff member responsible, to follow protocol and pay attention to the job.

BOUQUET To Locklan for helping my friend and I when she realized she had a flat tire at Westwood Lake. We really appreciated your help.

BEEF To the person or persons involved with the removal of fractured rock from the front of my home in Lantzville. I purchased and placed this decorative rock at my own expense. Why you would think you are entitled to remove said rock only speaks to your integrity.

BOUQUET To everyone who cuts broom in bloom. Thank you for doing a small part to stop the spread of this invasive species.

BEEF Forty-two years ago as a new salesman on Vancouver Island I was ticketed for hustling to my office in Campbell River from Nanaimo twice in one trip. Where are these RCMP champions of road safety today? I live on a section of the Island Highway which represents a drag race course. Loud exhaust pipes, excessive speed.

BOUQUET To Const. Smith of the Nanaimo RCMP. Thank you so much for your kindness, compassion, empathy, knowledge, understanding and for thoroughly and effectively handling all due diligence when providing me with information and advice for my situation. I truly hope your significant other feels beyond blessed to have such a quality, stand-up gentleman and that the RCMP recognize the extraordinary and commendable representation they have as well.

BEEF To the businesses that push having to do everything online. We can’t all afford online. When you try to do it on the phone it’s a miserable experience with no ‘live’ person. Whatever happened to customer service and choices?

BOUQUET Thanks to the amazing team of nurses I had in labour and delivery at NRGH. It’s been five months and I think about your kindness often. Abbey, Navleen, Paige and Trinity, you made the initiation into motherhood and recovery from birth so much easier. Huge shout out to Dr. Renner and the OR staff as well.

BEEF That job reminded me of why I don’t want to do management anymore. Also the hours and the driving really cut into my free time so I was losing a lot of gym time. I want to be able to focus on my health.

BOUQUET To people in our regional district who are making an effort to keep Scotch broom in check. Driving up and down the Island it seems we’re doing a bit better, relatively, at controlling broom, but there’s unfortunately so much more to do.
