Beef: I understand you may be bored while you are in hospital but that does not entitle you to disturb the other three people in the ward by listening to various things on your phone hour after hour or to speak to friends and family hands-free.

BOUQUET To Save-On-Foods’ 1-800 number. The people who I speak with are so helpful and kind.

BEEF To everyone overbuilding unaffordable housing that none can afford to rent. Why not build rent-to-own housing and include the down payment in the total cost of the home?

BOUQUET To people who read labels and purchase Canadian-made products and also support our farmers’ markets. Not only are we supporting our growers and distributors, we are being more sustainable to the environment whilst being healthier.

BEEF To the woman who let go of her dog’s leash in Barney Moriez Park and let it run toward me and my leashed cat. My cat became fearful and defensive, and if another woman hadn’t been there to keep the dog away, would’ve seriously injured your dog. Your dog likes cats, but not everyone will like your dog.

BOUQUET To Wil at Canadian Tire. The customer service he provided to me was outstanding. He went the extra mile, wearing a smile, as well as being very friendly and pleasant A big reminder as to what customer service should be like across the board. Where has it gone?

BEEF Rather than raise the fares on RDN buses, the drivers should not swallow all the sob stories non-paying passengers give them. I have witnessed only one driver make the passenger get off the bus. Plus a well-dressed young couple did not pay and then sat down and tucked into sushi. I am a senior and always make sure I have my fare.

BOUQUET To mayor and council for helping build a world-class BMX bicycle track. Sadly across the street from it we have a second-class public works yard.

BEEF To all the cruel, heartless people who dump their cats out south of Nanaimo. A tame domestic cat is not meant to be abandoned.

BOUQUET To Frank at Home Hardware. Thank you again for helping with my little great-granddaughter’s jewelry box. Happy new year to you and family and to all employees at Home Hardware.

BEEF To Nanaimo city council. Following two years with no tax increase, the democratic Lantzville council will now ask residents if they want a tax increase, while the undemocratic Nanaimo council has already unanimously passed a resolution seeking to change provincial legislation allowing them to burden taxpayers with massive debt without asking them for any approval whatsoever, neither by AAP nor referendum.

BOUQUET To Comsense Holdings. Shout out to all the people who made my kitchen a beautiful show-stopper, to Greg for the design and Kabir on the install. Outstanding job, quality all round. Thank you.

BEEF To the people who don’t have their chimneys cleaned every year. With all the soot from wood, and especially wet wood, the amount of creosote in the chimneys is dangerous. You should check in with your house insurance company because if there is a chimney fire and no proof of it being cleaned they will not cover the damage. Please do the right thing and get it cleaned. Houses next to you are in danger of catching fire, too.

BOUQUET To my supportive community for pulling together after a recent break-in at the newly opened pet food store. I cannot express my gratitude and fondness of my community enough. I love the people of Nanaimo.

BEEF To the City of Nanaimo whining about the barrier at colliery dam. A picture tells a thousand words as the disgusting sludge and debris is the real problem. One concrete anchor and a cable, $10-20,000? Are they made of diamonds?

BOUQUET To paramedics, police, coroner and Serenity Transfer Services for brave efforts, patience, remarkable kindness and respect to me and my husband who sadly passed away despite valiant efforts at our home. Thank you to all who attended.

BEEF I hear the same story from councils and mayors provincewide, that more people and houses equals a bigger tax base and lower property taxes. What a farce. Look at Nanaimo for the example.

BOUQUET I wish to thank a caring lady who helped me at Nanaimo North Town Centre as I was having a heart attack. She stayed with me and directed first responders. I owe my life to these incredible paramedics, the ER team and ICU staff, internal medicine floor, paramedic transport team and catheterization lab in Victoria.

BEEF What kind of person steals someone else’s mailbox just because they can? My neighbour’s brightly coloured mailbox which she hand painted with flowers is gone. Shame on you. Put it back.

BOUQUET To the brewery for creating the swirl stout, chocolate and vanilla together. Now both my wife and my girlfriend enjoy the same beer and I don’t get mixed up when buying.

BEEF The recent art installation feels like an insult to the natural beauty of the park – its trees, birds, and peaceful atmosphere. Public park art should ideally foster a sense of connection to nature, but this installation does the opposite, replacing tranquility with excessive noise, loud music, and glaring neon lights that clash with the park’s aesthetics.

BOUQUET To all who realize that no wall has been built on Mexico’s northern border. It seems prudent to believe that a certain politician tends to blow a lot of hot air. The sky is not falling. Choose happiness and enjoy our beautiful nation.

BEEF I understand you may be bored while you are in hospital but that does not entitle you to disturb the other three people in the ward by listening to various things on your phone hour after hour or to speak to friends and family hands-free. Have some consideration for others.

BOUQUET To Apbee and Kay and Val for the stellar service despite always being swamped. You all make it look so easy.

BOUQUET To the landscaper who volunteered his time to clean up a big stretch of Rock City Road. The fallen trees and tree branches had been on the road and sidewalk for many weeks with nothing being done to clean it up, so thank you.

BOUQUET To Bend Over Backwards Yoga studio. I recently had surgery and my mobility is limited. Kelly was accommodating and allowed me to continue my practise despite my limitations. I appreciate her inclusivity which allows me to continue my classes.

BOUQUET To the person in our mobile home park who delivers our News Bulletin to our park every week to the clubhouse, very much appreciated.

BOUQUET To the guys at Davey Tree services. After three days of being treed, they saved my scared cat from a 50-foot cedar tree. Very compassionate and professional. A heartfelt thank you. And thanks to the community for coming together.

BOUQUET To the woman in Barney Moriez Park who kept an out-of-control dog away from my leashed cat and led the owner and dog away so my cat could calm down. Your quick thinking and firm handling of the situation prevented a serious altercation and animal injury. Our hero.

BOUQUET To the murders of crows getting a good feast on the lawns of many. These complaints help me realize there are quite a few people in our town with little to no worries in life. If that is all they have to whine about, their lives are good.

BOUQUET To Telus Friendly Future Foundation for their generous support of ElderDog Nanaimo-Oceanside. Wonderful to see a corporation give back to the community.

BOUQUET To my daughter. It was heartwarming to discover you’d stood up for me against a local business that took advantage with over-charging. That little jab toward them means something and I’m now seeing what you did so long ago. Yes, let’s not go back.

BOUQUET To our groundskeeper Lyndze. You brought many smiles and laughter during your time here. Here’s to happy new horizons filled with hope. All the best.

BOUQUET To our neighbour, a busy dad of three kiddies, who took the time to procure a tall ladder then came and fixed the soffit on my house that had been damaged during one of our wind storms. Thank you so much, Nayko, this senior neighbour is extremely grateful.

BOUQUET To the fire department for their quick response time and helping to put out a vehicle fire at our apartment building. I am so grateful for you all.

BOUQUET To the Foam Guy for the excellent customer service. The new sales associate was very helpful and patient when it came to my indecisiveness. She accidentally undercharged me but when I returned for pickup, said that I didn’t need to pay the difference. A great first experience at a local store.
