BOUQUET To B.C. Hydro crews. Your tireless efforts do not go unnoticed, though you may think they do. I retired from a similar line crew job in the States and I think a huge thank you for helping keep the juice flowing is long overdue. Reddy Kilowatt says thanks, too.
BEEF To the beefers about the narrowing of Hammond Bay Road. Do you know what traffic calming is? Since it is a major thoroughfare, the city can not install a speed bump. This roadway has rampant speeding issues all year round. The speed limit is 50, so if you’re doing the speed limit, this narrowing shouldn’t affect you in the least.
BOUQUET To all the Islanders who followed the four-way-stop rule on their commutes to and from work during the power outage. It’s a simple system that works well when we all do it, and gets us to work and home safely without too much delay.
BEEF To doctors who don’t do yearly checkups to catch problems before they become major, and cost the health-care system a heck of a lot more, not to mention stress to patients. I have health issues and my doctor has never ever took my blood pressure even. You have to beg for tests.
BOUQUET To the management and all the staff at Origin at Longwood for providing us residents with delicious meals and a safe and comfortable environment during the power outage. I also want to mention the exceptional medical care provided to our long-term residents at Astoria and/or anyone else needing medical attention in assisted living and independent living during this very difficult time. Thank you.
BEEF To the manager who does not appreciate the hard-working, courteous and efficient employee. When he retires, she will realize what a loss it will be to the company.
BOUQUET To Milne Roofing for the quick response to damage when a movable object hit an immovable one –tree branch versus roof. I phoned Wednesday and Buck knocked on our door Thursday and was finished half an hour later.
BEEF To the shameless federal government for essentially trying to bribe voters with some measly crumbs just before an election. There should be a very clear law and timeframe against handing out money in an election year.
BOUQUET To the staff and volunteers at the Nanaimo Hospice Shoppe – you did a wonderful job of both managing the pre-Christmas sale and switching over the store for the Christmas season. Thank you for your hard work.
BEEF To the neighbour from across the way who still wanders onto our stratas to defecate and urinate. Please, for all that is decorum, stop. You live close enough to hold it.
BOUQUET Very grateful to the Hullo ferry staff who dealt with a full ship of those of us going to the Grey Cup and fans going to the Canucks game. It was crowded and busy yet your staff were super professional, friendly and positive during the challenges. We are grateful.
BEEF To the City of Nanaimo’s mayor and council. I recently had to get a criminal record report from the RCMP detachment for my work and to my utter surprise found out that the fee had gone up from $25 last year to $55 now. If the city needs money that badly maybe it should set up more radar speed control. One rarely sees police on the roadways anymore.
BOUQUET To the flaggers who help so the hydro crews can get in and get done and then on the next one.
BEEF Two people took the time to comment on the narrowing of a section of Hammond Bay Road. I’m sure many others (including me) are disgusted with this change as well. One has to ask oneself who is coming up with these ridiculous plans and also who’s signing off on them?
BOUQUET Staff at Auto Check who recently changed my tires were so professional, positive and friendly. I will take my car there from now on for excellent service.
BEEF To Nanaimo voters. I guess you like high prices, crime and open drug use in your neighbourhoods.
BOUQUET To my amazing girlfriend, you light up my world with your love and warmth. Every day with you is a gift and I am so grateful to have you by my side. You mean the world to me.
BEEF To all of the local restaurants that had ‘senior menus’ before COVID and now have rescinded them. Seniors are on limited incomes and need these options to enjoy the occasional meal out. Please restore them to your menus.
BOUQUET We ‘discovered’ the NightOwls this past summer and are grateful to coach Frady who did an excellent job and we look forward to welcoming coach Andreychuk for the 2025 season. What a super way to spend a summer night.
BEEF To everyone from team red and team blue who refuse to get along. Just give it a chance, I mean, come on.
BOUQUET To NRGH ECT staff. I am thankful to the entire team for making the process much less scary than I expected, for your kindness, and wonderful sense of humour each time.
BEEF I can’t help but keep reading letters to the editors on your site that constantly go against what urban planners have been trying to correct for 30 years. Nanaimo is already a car community which needs improvement on public transportation, foot traffic, and bike lanes. This is getting ridiculous and annoying to read.
BOUQUET To the manager for putting up with the grief I seem to send their way. And a beef to me for doing it. I’m trying to be more mindful. My sincerest apologies.
BEEF When is the Nanaimo Aquatic Centre going to repair or replace the bathing suit dryer in the men’s washroom? Other washrooms have functional machines. Everyone tries to use it. I pay fees and taxes to fix this sort of thing.
BOUQUET We have discovered Sushi Ryu. The best value for sushi in Nanaimo. Your bento boxes are amazing. Due to excellent quality, quantity and value, you are now our favourite place to order from.
BEEF In the history of humankind, no one ever said ‘Let’s make Hammond Bay Road narrower and more difficult to navigate.’ Oh wait – the City of Nanaimo must have.
BOUQUET We are grateful for outstanding service from Pioneer Fireplace. My senior mom wanted to switch out her wood stove fireplace for a gas fireplace and the service (quote, follow up, customer service) has been excellent. We are so grateful for service that matches the promises.
BEEF I was recently in hospital for four days. The floors, bathroom, etc. were never cleaned and beds not made. Used toilet paper that had fallen on floor was still there four days later. Food was terrible – hyper salty, overly sugared and not fresh.
BOUQUET So grateful to all the local Royal Canadian Legion branches for the incredible efforts to highlight, remember and support veterans, veteran’s services and the history of peacekeeping efforts. One day a year is not enough but the Legions put forth an excellent effort leading up to and including this day.
BEEF Fellow e-car drivers, we are all in the same situation of having to, at times, wait for a charging spot. Two people waiting glared at me and when they felt that I’d taken enough power, they took it upon themselves in an intimidating fashion to let me know there were several in line for a charge. You never know what journey that person needs the power for and it’s not up to others to decide.
BOUQUET To Courtney, Cineplex manager, for her patience, humour and kindness to staff and customers. Fabulous job you’re doing and much appreciated.
BEEF To beef. You are too expensive – looks like chicken and fish for me.
BOUQUET To NRGH palliative care staff, including Nanaimo Community Hospice volunteers. It takes a special temperament to be in this line of work. Thank you all for such empathy and kindness you all show.
BEEF To the city for enforcing a ridiculous parking bylaw on a Sunday. I’m betting all my inflated dollars to your doughnut economics that you wouldn’t have done this if it were an ‘extra special interest group’ gathering. A whole side of beef to the person who called in and complained.
BOUQUET To Glen R. for putting our bookcase together and helping with the futon when we recently moved to Nanaimo. Your pleasantness and courtesy were greatly appreciated.
BEEF I recently cancelled an appointment at the bank that I no longer needed because I completed my transaction online. Although I provided notice of cancellation, I was called and ‘berated’ by an investment person with respect to my investment choices. One more bad interaction in a long line of bad interactions.
