Beef to tax cheats who under-report their self-employment income year after year to avoid child support and collect maximum benefits. One word for you: karma.

BOUQUET To the beefers beefing about the American flag being displayed and/or driven around in the back of trucks, I am with you. I think it’s so disrespectful. Why? This is Canada, not America. Stand tall and proud to be Canadian.

BEEF To the American company that bought the Canadian store and ran it into the ground. Let’s hope the U.S. president’s plan of annexation doesn’t do the same.

BOUQUET To the athletes and teams representing Nanaimo. Scoring goals and winning games really does bring a measure of happiness to the people cheering you on, and it makes a difference in community-building. Go Nanaimo go!

BEEF The taxi service is putting road users at risk by repeatedly forcing drivers to acknowledge receipt of canned messages via tapping on the tablet while they drive. These messages are sent out multiple times per shift.

BOUQUET To Lens. Be the protagonist that you are capable of being, don’t let life kick you. It takes baby steps to start. You can do it.

BEEF To the person writing they were applauding the removal of the trucker painting downtown, and writing that 99 per cent of Nanaimo wasn’t for the trucker protest. I along with so many others in Nanaimo were proud of the worldwide protests that were supporting Canada and the freedom of rights.

BOUQUET Our visit to the ER was nothing short of outstanding. From the intake nurse, Tia, to the assigned nurse, Danielle, and the physician, Dr. Chopra, my husband had nothing but kind, careful and superb treatment. Kudos to all the folk we encountered that day. The ER was overflowing, but no one was ‘rushing.’

BEEF To people who go out and purposefully try to get free stuff from restaurants when there was nothing wrong with the item they ordered. These businesses lose money all year only to make a few pennies during high season to stave off bankruptcy. Show some community spirit rather than bringing others down to feel up. Especially after COVID, it is disgraceful to be so unsupportive.

BOUQUET Now is the time to use weed and moss killer on the lawn. Also grass fertilizer.

BEEF While I wholeheartedly support the noble mission of improving our neighbourhoods around St. George Street, I have one small request: could we possibly reassemble the roads afterward? At present, driving feels less like a commute and more like an off-road obstacle course – complete with unexpected dips, chaotic asphalt mosaics, and the occasional involuntary airborne moment.

BOUQUET To Nanaimo Fire Rescue Station 3 first responders/firefighters. Huge gratitude to all of them. Their station is in our neighbourhood. They are always the first to arrive when anyone has to call 911. They are so knowledgeable and kind. Thank you so much for all your hard work. We are so blessed.

BEEF To parks and rec for their limited options for activities for those who work during the day.  Beban Pool closes early and almost all of the activities in the activity guide take place during the weekdays between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Nice for stay-at-home moms and retired folks, but the day workers are out of luck.

BOUQUET To the three women who work at the north-end Staples; I was having a horrible day today, complete with emotional, uncontrollable tears while dealing with a family matter via text, and all three of you (two in printing one at the front customer service) were incredibly sweet, empathetic and just plain amazing. Seriously, thank you.

BEEF To banks and other call centres – please do not keep telling me how important is my call if you are not prepared to employ sufficient staff to man your phones but, instead, keep me on hold while bombarding me with promotions until I become yet another dissatisfied customer.

BOUQUET You are doing an awesome job.

BEEF One council member said regarding the boathouse that it won’t cost the taxpayers any more money should they decide on the more expensive choice because the funds will be coming out of a reserve account. Now I have to ask myself, does this person not know where the reserve funds came from in the first place?

BOUQUET Don’t stigmatize your own condition(s). All too often people accept treating high blood pressure, diabetes, cholesterol, etc., with meds, yet completely criticize when treating psychiatric conditions. Not saying you need to be a big pharma pawn, but depression/anxiety is also due to chemical imbalances, which medications are intending to help balance back out.

BEEF We certainly don’t want to be the 51st state “of the greatest and freest country in the world” for a wide array of significant reasons. Some fact-checking: the U.S. is 28th on the transparency/corruption index (Canada is 15th), 28th on the democracy index (Canada is 14th), 131st on the safest country index (Canada is 11th), 21st on the human development index (Canada is 18th) and 23rd on the happiness index (Canada is 15th), all figures for 2024.

BOUQUET To the lovely lady who sat and shared some inspiring words with me at Pipers Lagoon. Your kind words were a beautiful addition to a spectacular sunrise. Peace and love to you and zen.

BEEF To Joy. She was the source of all conflict in the movie. Thought she knew best, nearly destroyed everything. Joy is actively hindering the tools that Riley needs to fight against real life. I think some traditional villains that we view as villains also have no malicious intent.

BOUQUET To Old City Plumbing for their prompt response to a kitchen water leak. Thank you Lanny for the excellent service.

BEEF To tax cheats who under-report their self-employment income year after year to avoid child support and collect maximum benefits. One word for you: karma.

BOUQUET Congrats to my ShayShay on your new bakery position at Save-On-Foods Brooks Landing. I shall miss you ever so dearly in meats. Grow girl grow! So proud of you. Well deserved.

BEEF To the candidates in the Nanaimo-Ladysmith riding who have put up illegally sized campaign signs. If you break a simple bylaw, what other laws might you consider ignoring?

BOUQUET I know I’m late, but with spring here, I’m really missing Little Tree Nursery. Our plants inside and out need some updates. I’ve relied on their knowledge for a decade. Hope they’re all enjoying a new, green adventure.

BEEF To the bank teller who asked me where I got my money from when making a deposit to my account. It is none of your business. When I tried using the ATM it wouldn’t accept all my bills so that’s why I had to stand an hour in line to make a deposit. There is never more than two tellers working at one time and a long line up to the door. You have just lost a customer.

BOUQUET To Nanaimo city council for the fine display of Canadian flags at Maffeo Sutton Park. This is a colourful and strong statement to our sovereignty in standing against Trump’s regime to the south.

BEEF To Elections B.C. for forcing a senior to vote in the last election by driving 55 minutes in atmospheric river conditions from my home. Bouquet to Elections Canada, now I can vote in my neighbourhood.

BOUQUET To Jonathan and his crew of Allterrain Roofing, thank you for your quick, efficient installation of two new skylights, we were getting wet in here and you got us sorted.

BEEF To grocery stores that put obstructive products in the aisles. Grocery shopping should be a relatively pleasant experience but not if you have to move over to let other shoppers pass. Frustrating at the very least.

BOUQUET To the person who spoke about the lights in the sky, you are correct, something is indeed watching us. The lights in the sky move too fast and rapidly change directions for it to be a plane. I was out the other night and saw them again. They weren’t even over the airport.

BEEF All gas stations seem to be in the same pricing range for gas in Nanaimo. I have watched one station for the past year – it is always three cents over the other gas stations. Greedy.

BOUQUET To Mayor Krog for his dedication and hands-on involvement in our community. I have encountered him at two community events in the past few weeks, one at Oliver Woods Community Centre and the other at the 20th anniversary of Probus North, and he was gracious and engaged. Thank you.

BEEF To politicians who degrade each other in their ads, especially on the radio and TV. Is this type of bullying an example we want to show our children?
