BOUQUET To the homeowners across the street from Oliver Woods. The displays that you put up for each and every season and holiday bring so much joy to my children, myself, and everyone in the community. Your hard work and time is very appreciated.
BEEF To all the people who give pigs a bad name. Stop dumping your garbage, food debris, and especially smouldering cigarette butts on the roadside. Show some respect for the place you live. Protect our environment. Recycle what you can. Garbage into the garbage.
BOUQUET A sincere thanks, with all my heart, to the lady who followed my car last week to Mary Ellen Drive Shoppers Drug Mart to warn me about the need to be more alert when driving. You were an ‘angel’ sent to warn me. I listened to you, sold my car and am surrendering my licence after almost seventy years of driving. God bless you.
BEEF If the city can spend on plans for an upgrade to the works yard and all the money on flags and unnecessary things, why can’t it look after the road into the off-leash dog park at Beban Park that has been terrible for years. The potholes get so bad that people are hitting bottom on their cars just to get into the park.
BOUQUET To residents who fly Canadian flags on their properties or tape Nanaimo News Bulletin paper flags to their windows. As I walk my neighbourhood, it lifts my spirits and helps me feel hopeful that we will survive this crisis.
BEEF To the U.S. president demanding unquestioned loyalty to his agenda. With friends like him, who needs enemies? If you want to really buy Canadian, buy gas from Mid Island Co-op, Husky, and Gas ‘n’ Go.
BOUQUET To all the wonderful volunteers running a huge variety of fun programs for their peers at Nanaimo Harbour City Seniors at Bowen Park. The group is vibrant and welcoming, offering so many opportunities to get out and socialize. Thanks for sharing your talents so enthusiastically. From a very grateful senior.
BEEF To the hidden agenda. There’s no way those bright lights by the airport were from an airplane. It must’ve been something else.
BOUQUET To all of the thoughtful drivers who dim their headlights when approaching me on my bike in the dark early mornings. I so appreciate you.
BEEF As soon-to-be residents, we are very disappointed with Nanaimo’s bylaws prohibiting street parking for licensed insured vehicles on some streets. Is this some kind of a guessing game? Is this how Nanaimo greets its newcomers and tourists, with tickets and towing?
BOUQUET To R-U Computing. What an awesome little computer shop. Don’t let their outside appearance fool you – they are open Monday through Friday for all your computer needs. Impressive service and caring attitude. Much appreciated.
BEEF To those who call the U.S.A. and Canada democracies. One nation is a constitutional republic, and the other is a constitutional monarchy. One swears allegiance to a document, and the other swears allegiance to a person. Any other label used by any agency or group, public or private, is misleading and false.
BOUQUET I continue to be grateful to Glenn and Zoltan of Force Boxing for being such positive coaches and creating a great atmosphere for this 50-something new boxer while learning a new sport.
BEEF To some cashiers. Ask your customer if they want their receipt, don’t just throw it out, it is not up to you.
BOUQUET To Canadians – let’s keep our north strong and free. Where else would evicted Santa and Mrs. Claus move to in this housing shortage? Have their postal code change to ONO NON?
BEEF To those who drink the electric vehicle Kool-Aid. The environmental waste and damage caused by the mining of lithium for the volatile batteries far exceeds the benefits of the product. Hybrids, natural gas, and hydrogen-powered vehicles are the far superior choices if you’re obsessive about saving the planet.
BOUQUET To the staff at Harbourview Volkswagen, especially to the sales associate Patrick, finance manager Caitlin and fabulous owner Sjon. They went above and beyond in their service, everyone was friendly and professional, and I am so happy with my purchase.
BEEF To the beefer complaining about the lab. If you’re seriously suggesting someone should avoid using a medical facility because it’s from a country you dislike, you may want to spend a minute or two looking at yourself in a mirror and thinking about what you said.
BOUQUET To the News Bulletin for choosing my bouquet and to Turley’s Florist for the beautiful flower arrangement I received from them. Thank you so much.
BEEF In agreement about the so-called ‘freedom fighter’ convoys bleating in protest about COVID vaccines a few years ago. If we ever needed freedom fighters, now is the time, when U.S. bullies threaten to annex Canada. Where are your parades and protests now when it really counts?
BOUQUET To the computer department at London Drugs in Nanaimo North Town Centre for their service to repair a big problem for me, a small problem for knowledgeable tech. Service unmatchable.
BEEF To the beefer calling gas stations ‘greedy.’ Gas stations operate on razor-thin margins, and the price goes up because oil companies set prices higher. Be angry at them, not your local gas station owner. It’s not fair to them.
BOUQUET To all the unity and Canadian pride I’m seeing in opposition to the U.S. president and his threats to annex Canada.
BEEF For flying the American flag on the waterfront. The United States represents a real threat to Canada’s sovereignty. Please take it down.
BOUQUET To the B.C. Cadet Honour Band who performed a free concert at the Port Theatre. Impressive young talent, obviously very committed musicians and it was a wonderful performance. I hope we can fill the entire theatre next year. Many thanks to the Port for hosting this wonderful event and the adults, conductors and parents who support the musicians.
BEEF To the lab’s wait-time estimates. After waiting for two hours, with only one to two people being seen every hour, we were told that the next two people would have a minimum of two hours’ wait. I was 10th in line at 8 a.m. and then seventh in line at 10 a.m., which meant I might have to wait another four to six hours.
BOUQUET To those buying Canadian or at least non-U.S. products whenever possible, also to displaying Canadian flags, decals, stickers, whatever. Too bad most of them are made in China. Let’s hope Canadian/provincial governments pull together to support Canadian businesses, erase provincial trade barriers and make Canada stronger and more self-sufficient.
BEEF To the many citizens angry at the U.S. president and his rhetoric instead of being properly angry at our own politicians for the mess this country is in. Your eye has been effectively diverted off the ball. Get mad over something you can do something about, rather than a press-inflated comment.
BOUQUET To Nicole from LifeLabs B.C. customer service. She called me within two hours of the complaint, heard me clearly and will look into the computer glitch. She was the perfect service representative in this kind of situation. I hope to see better wait-time service soon.
BEEF Where’s a hospital whose emergency triage system has people with sore toes – walking just fine, still wearing shoes – seen before people who are bleeding very profusely? NRGH.
BOUQUET To fresh spring air and birdsong. And beef to neighbours who smoke near my window so I can’t open it or the door to enjoy nature.
BEEF To the pizza delivery driver who somehow didn’t see the massive, painted-yellow boulder in broad daylight. Not only did you manage to get stuck, but you also had to call in a second driver to help – was this a training exercise in how not to deliver pizza?
BOUQUET A chorus of thanks to my choir buddy Daphne who stands beside me every week to make sure I stay in tune. You are the best.
BEEF Sad that Nanaimo doesn’t have more doctors and more walk-in clinics, as it's so sad to tie up emergency for an earache, etc. And wait time to get a family doctor is terrible.
BOUQUET To Fredrich’s Honey. Really appreciated the lovely customer service provided by the young gentleman and kitty pets to friendly greeter Buster the cat. Happy to shop local here.
