BOUQUET To our beautiful NRGH. I was diagnosed with glioblastoma three years ago. Thank you to the special nurse who gave me the ‘You’ve Got This’ sign. Special thank you to all the B.C. Cancer crew.
BEEF To folks young and old who enter crosswalks without stopping and looking both ways. Even if you hit the crosswalk warning light you should still stop and look. A car does not automatically come to a halt when the button is pushed. Protect yourself.
BOUQUET To Shannon Gorgichuk at RE/Max of Nanaimo for orchestrating the real estate deal of the decade. Two home sales and a purchase with all subjects removed inside of 21 days. You’re an absolute legend.
BEEF Shame on the strata council and management company that paid for all owners’ attic upgrades except for one unit. They were treated unfairly, disrespected and given abrupt and unreasonable cause. Sounds like a legitimate visit to a lawyer for our good neighbours’ benefit.
BOUQUET To the very kind gentleman with the red truck who saw us struggling to try to fit four chairs into our car at Brooks Landing. He kindly offered to bring our chairs to our house. Many thanks.
BEEF To the U.S. administration for treating Canadians poorly.
BOUQUET To a wonderful caregiver, Clayton, who tends patients on the sixth floor of NRGH. Seeing his cheerful, caring attitude was healing in itself and much appreciated.
BEEF To the fellow in the noisy orange car whose muffler wakes the neighbourhood up.
BOUQUET Spend time with people who make you feel good. Engaging with supportive friends can help reduce stress and boost your morale. Join a group activity or check in with your loved ones.
BEEF A local grocery store has five different U.S.-grown lettuces and one from Alberta. How can they support Canada by this? A bouquet to the shoppers who are buying the Canadian choice.
BOUQUET To Jeff and Stephanie at Bryan’s Mechanical. Outstanding service and an absolute pleasure to deal with.
BEEF To the potholes at Blueback Beach access parking lot. A massive one over the curb we all bottom out on.
BOUQUET To everyone involved with the recent Ladysmith Cinnamon Bun Challenge with proceeds going to the food bank. You are all heroes including the reporter who described it with such wit and humour. You brightened my entire day in these grim times, and I shared the story with friends across Canada and the U.S. who also loved it.
BEEF To the individual who thinks that ‘stand up for Canada’ actions like firmly supporting purchasing Canadian products, are ‘ridiculous.’ While the regulated ‘product of Canada’ means greater than 98 per cent of input costs are spent in Canada, the ‘made in Canada’ designation, usually containing some imported ingredients, is greater than 51 per cent of input costs spent in Canada, still at least greater than half and still able to deliver the message.
BOUQUET To the beefer who believes the lights in the sky was not simply a plane. My family too wanted to chastise me for my opinion, but I’ve continued to see the lights in the sky. There’s got to be something watching us.
BEEF To mayor and council. $11 million for a big building in the middle of Loudon Park? Stop spending.
BOUQUET To the ladies in the gas station counter lineup who spontaneously collected approximately $25 to pay for the gas of a 94-year-old senior who arrived with an empty tank, without his wallet and had only $1.60 in coins. Thank you for the good Samaritan and civic spirit. Wow!
BEEF To the individual who blindly supports our “democratically elected southern neighbour” and tries to deflect using China as the foil. These countries both now have autocratic governments, using many of the same anti-democratic devices – one has just been at it longer than the other. So, just you wait.
BOUQUET Thank you to Kal Tire on the old Island Highway for assisting my granddaughter with her first-ever flat tire. The tire was repaired and remounted without charge. It’s a lovely gesture not to be forgotten.
BEEF To the corporation that owns the animal hospital and fired veterinarians and veterinary nurses. Shame on you for treating your staff and the pet owners of Nanaimo so poorly.
BOUQUET To the kind gentleman with the 15-year-old little pup who offered to walk me through the park after a man threatened me. Your offer was much appreciated.
BEEF To the entitled mom at the nearly full showing of the kids’ movie. You were sitting in seats you very well knew weren’t yours. When I politely requested that you move you reacted by shouting at me and playing the victim. After you rudely and begrudgingly vacated said seats, you proceeded to sit in several other guests’ spots where you were asked to move each time until ultimately ending up at the very front of the theatre in what I presume were your actual seats.
BOUQUET To Daryl from Structured Cable Systems. Hardworking and professional. Thank you for the incredible job.
BEEF To the beefer who beefed the beefer for criticizing the B.C. government’s $1,000 grocery rebate. We have record high debt and budget deficit. We cannot afford irresponsible politicking.
BOUQUET To the addiction health team for providing care in pop-up tents until Island Health makes good on its plans for overdose prevention sites.
BOUQUET To Barclay at Great Clips, an excellent hairdresser.
BEEF Access to the store in the mall with a wheelchair is almost impossible. I managed to find what I wanted and went to the counter to purchase and sat there for over five minutes calling to two clerks who came and went, ignoring me. Apparently elderly are not welcome. Will never go there again.
BOUQUET To Nico/Nasa. Wherever you are, whatever you’re doing, brother, we are with you and are praying that everything with you and your family is in good hands. We miss you and will always be here for you when you need us.
BEEF To people who, when they disagree with a statement made by someone who is a visible minority, default to racism rather than putting forward any kind of thoughtful counter-point.
BOUQUET Thank you to the NRGH stroke team and B.C. Ambulance Service paramedics and pilot. Thanks to all of your quick action, my husband is home and doing well. Hugs.
BEEF Social media, video games and other screen-based activities can eat up your precious time. Be mindful of this and set specific time limits, including a clear start and end time.
BOUQUET Thank you for putting the red maple leaves in the advertisements signifying the product is a Canadian one. It sure helps in product selection. Appreciate the extra help in choices.
BEEF To the person who called out ‘Run, Forrest,’ when I was running. I guess that’s what I get for running.
BOUQUET My boyfriend hates me. He hates that I’m either always right or I predict too much correctly.
BEEF To the political party putting up the oversize signs that violate Nanaimo’s sign bylaw and another beef for ignoring the bylaw people’s requests to remove them. Way to adhere to the rule of law.
BOUQUET To Kevin and Brock from Erickson Roofing for being so helpful and kind.
BEEF To the person complaining about clam diggers at Nanoose. We have been digging and parking here for over a decade.
BOUQUET To Angella, our favourite server at Ricky’s All-Day Grill at the Days Inn. She always makes us feel welcome and ensures our time spent at Ricky’s is enjoyable.
BEEF I went to the supermarket and parked in the lot and someone ripped one of the windshield wipers straight off. I’m absolutely seething. It’s a lease car. They also damaged the hood paint from the force of the wiper snapping off.
BOUQUET To the off-duty paramedic who attended my husband’s bike accident on Tenth Street on Jan. 27 and the two witnesses who gave their names and numbers to him. Could the paramedic or witnesses please contact us via the News Bulletin at editor@nanaimobulletin.com?
