Yvonne Reta Jans

Yvonne passed away peacefully on February 1, 2017 with her husband, Hank, by her side. Yvonne was born in Edmonton and raised in Tofield, AB. She met and then married Hank in Edmonton in 1961 and graduated from the University of Alberta in 1963. She taught primary grades for over thirty years in both Edmonton and Nanaimo. After retiring from teaching, Yvonne became an avid quilter, a member of the Nanaimo Quilters’ Guild, and donated the majority of her finished quilts to local women’s shelters and hospitals. She also loved reading, volunteering at the Port Theatre, and travelling with Hank. Yvonne is survived by her son Bruce (Rebecca) and her daughter Sandra, both from Surrey, BC. Her family wishes to express their gratitude to all of the health care providers at NRGH for their outstanding level of attention and compassion during her short illness. Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart & Stroke Foundation in lieu of flowers would be gratefully accepted and deeply appreciated.
A celebration of Yvonne’s life will be held on March 18, 2017 between 2:00 and 4:00 pm in the club house at Ocean Walk Drive.
