GEE, Yet Cal

November 19, 1916 – October 24, 2016

Our Mom, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother passed away peacefully in Vancouver, BC, just weeks before her 100th birthday.  Born and raised in a small village in the Canton Province in China, Mom married in 1934 and was raising a young family when the family began immigrating to Canada in 1948.  She overcame many hurdles and challenges to not only emigrate, settling in Lantzville in 1951, but to fully embrace her new country and culture.  With hard work and dedication, to the family egg farm and family restaurant, Mom raised seven children, all of whom went on to post-secondary education.  We will forever treasure her love, devotion, strength, selflessness, joy of life and infectious laughter.

Predeceased by her husband, Jew Sing, and her oldest son, Ming (Nancy), brother Ronnie and sister May, Mom is survived by her brother Roddy (May), sister Susan (Peter), children Yuen (May), Dick (Jenny), Pauline, Rick (Barb), Jane (Allan) and Dunn (Christine), and by grandchildren Linda, Bonnie, Cindy, Shirley, Debbie, Warren, Lisa, Careesa, Daryl, David, Ian, Christina, Brendan and Alex, and by great-grandchildren Dillon, Chloe, Davison, Dylan, Kaitlyn and Liam.  We would like to pass on our many thanks to the staff at Dogwood Lodge in Vancouver for their extraordinary care of Mom for the past 9 ½ years.  Their love, support and laughter was most appreciated during her final years.

Memorial Services will be held at Victory Memorial Park Funeral Centre, 14831 28 Avenue, Surrey, BC on Friday, November 4 at 10:30 am.  She will then be laid to rest in Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens, 2347 Cedar Road, Nanaimo, BC on Saturday, November 5 at 1:00 pm.  In lieu of flowers, please make a charitable contribution to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
