Walter Keeler Butcher
August 2, 1924 - February 9, 2011
Passed away peacefully, aged 86. Predeceased by Mary, his loving wife of 62 years and brothers, Frank and Roy.
Born and raised in Vancouver, Walt & Mary moved to Nanaimo in 1947. Throughout the years they were members of the Associated Canadian Travellers, Cedar Valley Riding Club & the Nanaimo Yacht Club. Butcher Road is named after the Butcher Farm on Rutherford Road purchased in 1953 where they raised their 4 children: Lee (Phil) of Parksville, Janet of Nanaimo, Steven (Cathy) of Courtenay & Dana (Lisa) of Nanaimo.
“Dad was kind, generous & always ready to try anything.” Grandchildren: Deanna, Michelle, Curtis, Jordan, Ryan, Angela and Dillon; great-grandchildren: James, Liam, Noel and Rees. “Grandpa was fun with his quick wit & great sense of humour.” He was a very interesting & charismatic gentleman who deeply touched our lives in so many ways. We miss him very much - so many wonderful memories will remain in our hearts forever !
There will be a Memorial for Walt on Sunday, March 6, 2011 from 1:00-4:00 (with a short program at 2:00) at the Nanaimo Yacht Club, 400 Newcastle Avenue, Nanaimo, B.C.
