Vivian Amelia GIOVANDO

January 21, 2007

Vivian Amelia Giovando was born October 13, 1917 in Bienfait, Saskatchewan, passed away suddenly on January 21, 2007 in Nanaimo.

She was pre deceased by her beloved husband, Dr. Larry Giovando in 1982.

She is survived by her son Peter (Elizabeth) Giovando, stepson Larry Beban Giovando, and grandchildren Laureen, Tony, Katherine, David, and Bruce.

In 1940, after obtaining her designation as a registered nurse at the Regina General Hospital, Vivian moved to British Columbia, where she worked as a nurse at a number of hospitals in the Lower Mainland, including the Vancouver General Hospital, the Chilliwack Hospital, and Shaughnessy Hospital. In 1942 she moved to Nanaimo where she worked as a nurse at the “Old” Nanaimo Hospital until 1948, when she married Dr. Larry Giovando.

After her marriage, her focus was on raising her family and supporting her husband in his many endeavours. Her quiet dignity was a perfect counter-poise to his exuberance. Together they enjoyed an active social life, which included travel and boating. She impressed all those who knew her with her kindness and generosity.

The family wishes to extend its thanks to Vivian’s family doctor, Dr. Andrew Baird, and to Dr. Neil Rogers and the staff at the Emergency Acute Care Department and Floor 4 of the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital for their compassionate care of Vivian in her final hours.

A Memorial service will be held at Sands Funeral Chapel, 1 Newcastle Avenue, Nanaimo, on Friday January 26, 2007 at 1:00 pm.

Flowers are gratefully declined. To those who wish to do so, donations in memory of Vivian may be made to a charity of choice.
