December 20, 1930 - April 2, 2020
It is with great sadness that the family of Vi Johnstone (nee Ward) announce her peaceful passing at Evergreen Care Home in Campbell River on April 2.
Mom was predeceased by Jim, her husband for 64 years, her son Cary and daughter-in-law Marlene. Mom is survived by her son Kirk (Mary-Marguerite) Johnstone, granddaughters Leigh (Dan) Fortuna and Heather (Reto) Camenzind as well as great-grandchildren Kye, Kayden, Sierra and Noah. She is also survived by her son Mark (Anne) Johnstone and grandchildren Shawn (Nia) Hall, Alicia Johnstone, Cody (Anick) Johnstone and Sam (Abbey) Johnstone as well as great grandchildren Ella, Cora, Indiana, Cairo and Jordan. She is also survived by her sisters and many nieces and nephews.
Mom was born and raised in Nanaimo where she met Dad in high school. They moved around the province with their three boys to Duncan, Bella Coola, Nakusp and Smithers before settling in the John Hart Townsite in Campbell River in the late 1960's. After retirement they built a home on the beach on Denman Island where they enjoyed many years of wonderful friends, memories and lots of visits from their children and grandchildren.
Health concerns led them to return to Campbell River in 2004.
Mom was an amazing bookkeeper, but more so she loved to paint, to garden, play cards all night and quilt. She was a wonderful quilter and belonged to the Quilters Guilds on Denman Island and in Campbell River. She especially enjoyed their quilting retreats. We all have her beautiful quilts as a cozy reminder of her talents. Although she never hesitated to state how much she hated cooking, her Sunday night roast beef and Yorkshire pudding dinners were fabulous, and her grandchildren would constantly rave about her cinnamon buns!
A special thank you to Glen and Val for the monthly flowers to brighten Mom's room.
Many thanks to the amazing staff at Evergreen Care Home for the exceptional care that Mom received over the last year and a half. We will be forever grateful for your kindness and compassion.
There will be a private family gathering at a later date.
She was a devoted Mom and much loved!
