Aug 21, 1915 - Dec 21, 2017
On December 21, 2017 Verona (Ona) Burnes Wilkinson, (nee Adamson), born August 21,1915 in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, fell asleep in death. She was sixth of eleven children born to James and Rose Adamson.

Ona had a happy childhood surrounded by a large, honourable family and many kind relatives. She became engaged to Ernst Gersbach and moved to Germany where they married in 1935. During tumultuous times in Germany she had three daughters, Erna, Margot, and Monika (Moni) and a son, Robert (Bob.) In 1948, with the aid of her family, Ona returned to Canada with her children.

She settled in Victoria, BC, where she found work at Royal Roads, later for the Federal Government, Naden Naval Base, and finally at the Dockyard where she worked as cartographer. She was pleased to receive a letter of congratulations from Hon. P.E. Trudeau upon 24 years of service. Ona was very proud of her immediate family as well as her documented heritage of Irish and Scottish ancestry, including the poet Robbie Burns. She also enjoyed a warm friendship with her step-daughter, Gudrun Jahnke.

She will be remembered with affection by her descendants: 4 children, 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandson and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was predeceased by her parents and all her siblings.

We wish to thank the facility and staff at Wexford Creek in Nanaimo for their loving and patient care of our Mother/Grandmother for the past three years.

We will celebrate her life at the First Memorial Funeral Home 1720 Bowen Rd. Nanaimo, on February 10, 2018 at 1 pm.
